Monday sees the running of the Welsh Grand National from Chepstow, a fantastic Grade 3 spectacle.
20 runners have been declared for the big test around the track, which is giving soft conditions.
Last year’s winner Secret Reprieve is back for a title defence with the conditions potentially in his favour again.

Secret Reprieve 7/2 FAV in Welsh Grand National Racing Odds
Last year’s Welsh Grand National winner SECRET REPRIEVE is the 7/2 favourite for this year’s edition* (odds recorded at 21:30 GMT on December 26th, 2021 at Coral).
He is one of four previous winners in this year’s field.
A possible issue is that he hasn’t had a run since winning at Chepstow in last season’s edition in January.
So will he be able to make light of such a big absence? There are obvious claims there based on what he delivered before here.
That previous win in this race happened on the back of a very good winter. Can he do it fresh?
Eva’s Oskar in great heart
There has been superb form from EVA’S OSCAR this season, even though he comes in 8lb out of the handicap on Monday.
He opened the season with a victory over a 3m distance here at Chepstow in October.
There have been two credible efforts since from him, taking back to back runner-up finishes.
That most recent of those was at Cheltenham 17 days ago. Eva’s Oskar looks like he has further improvement still to come.
So there could be a big chance for the 7-year-old who is looking for his fourth win at Chepstow.

Highland Hunter has a chance
London National winner HIGHLAND HUNTER has some appeal at a quote of 10/1 in horse racing betting* (odds recorded at 21:30 GMT on December 26th, 2021 at Coral).
He is under a 4lb penalty after that success at Sandown on his reappearance run three weeks ago.
But that was a clear improvement in form and is enjoying life with his yard.
So he could still have more to offer and in the London National, he did have Deise Aba behind him.
This is on a longer trip which could pull even more from Highland Hunter.
Deise Aba should be in the frame
It has been back to back second-place finishes for DEISE ABA this season. Those were both runs full of credit.
The first was at Aintree over the hurdles before going to the London Hurdle at Sandown where only Highland Hunter was too good for him on the day.
Deise Aba was only touched narrowly in that one, however.
The big difference could be that Deise Aba is now 4lb better off against that rival and so should be heavily involved on Monday.

IWILLDOIT can make his presence felt
IWILLDOIT is under a 4lb penalty after scoring easily here at Chepstow three weeks ago. That was on a 3m trip.
Iwilldoit bolted up in that Chepstow run and even though he is 6lb out of the handicaps, he’s effectively 10lb higher.
But that was such a strong run from him, he could still get himself involved.

Others of note
POTTERS CORNER can’t totally be written off after discovering a return to form two weeks ago at Cheltenham.
That was in a cross country effort at Cheltenham. Potters Corner is 8lb out of the handicap.
HILL SIXTEEN is another that found some good form last time out. That was in the Becher at Aintree three weeks ago. He’s effectively 4lb higher but is no forlorn hope.
HOLD THAT TAUGHT comes in on the back of a win in a Carlisle handicap eight weeks ago.
He was dominant there and had something to spare. He should rate as a threat.
THE BIG DOG looked good on a longer trip at Punchestown back in February. He didn’t produce a follow up on his latest run, but he can’t be dismissed.
Predictions & Tips for Welsh Grand National Racing Odds
This is such a wide-open field and the first selection on the card is EVA’S OSKAR at 25/1* (odds recorded at 21:30 GMT on December 26th, 2021 at Coral).
He has been a good improver and there was a really encouraging runner up spot place finish at Cheltenham on his latest puts him in this.
SECRET REPRIEVE is worth a look as well despite not having run since winning the last edition of the Welsh National in January.
But that was such a good performance, there should be place claims back at the venue for his return.
IWILLDOIT is another that gets on the shortlist. He took a fantastic victory over the fences at Chepstow three weeks ago.
A positive ride got the best out of him and a similar performance could get him there and is a big player at 10/1* (odds recorded at 21:30 GMT on December 26th, 2021 at Coral).
