Morando the narrow 5/2 FAV in Geoffrey Freer Stakes

What a competitive race this is looking like. At the head of the market we have MORANDO at 5/2* (betting odds taken from Coral at 23:43 GMT on Friday, 14th August 2020).

If the conditions underfoot turn towards the softer side of things, then his claims are going to grow.

He finished last season in style with an excellent mile and a half win at Ascot, which came straight after a second-place finish in last year’s Geoffrey Freer Stakes trip.

He was only seventh on his return to action in June, but he looked rusty and just needed that refresher under his belt. There is a chance of him getting into the frame in this one and is one to watch.

HUKUM
5/1

Betway

Alignak could be a key player

We saw the best of ALIGNAK the last time out. He was in Listed company at Haydock in July and he rattled the crossbar in that fixture, just missing out on the win by a short-head.

But that was the best that he has delivered in his career so far. This is going to be another step up in terms of difficulty because this is a great field.

But he on the up and warrants some respect from 3/1* (betting odds taken from Coral at 23:43 GMT on Friday, 14th August 2020).

Hukum looks a threat in Newbury contest

HUKUM secured a win at Royal Ascot on his last trip. That was in the King George V Handicap over a mile and a half. He takes on a little more here, but that was some reappearance that Hukum put in.

Before that he had gotten off the mark on what was just his second appearance, scoring in a Kempton Novice before going off into the break.

Hukum carries a massive threat in this fixture from 5/1* (betting odds taken from Coral at 23:43 GMT on Friday, 14th August 2020).

Can Communique pull away for the win?

COMMUNIQUE is an interesting runner in this field at 10/1* (betting odds taken from Coral at 23:43 GMT on Friday, 14th August 2020). Twice last season he got a score on the board among Group 2 company.

He almost got a win at York on his penultimate run as he was pushed on to a 1m 6f trip. He looked good for that trip and he’s bold enough to take on the field if he is allowed to get to the front. There have been signs that he is coming back to some top form.

Can consistent Tritonic secure the win?

One of the most consistent horses in this field is TRITONIC and he cannot be written off from 9/2* (betting odds taken from Coral at 23:43 GMT on Friday, 14th August 2020).

He scored twice towards the end of last season as a juvenile. On his reappearance this season he showed up at Royal Ascot and scored a second-place there.

It was another runner up spot that he took on his following race, a Listed fixture at Hamilton. He looks competitive.

The rest of the runners

ALMANIA has been solid since her return. It’s been a couple of handicap efforts at Ascot for his new yard. He gets the blinkers on with connections hoping that it can push him on.

SEXTANT ran in last year’s renewal and he was fourth in the effort. In his last race, he was at Ascot in October, taking second place a fair bit behind Morando. He will have to find a fair bit from his mark.

MAX VEGA finished his juvenile season in great style with a couple of victories. His reappearance hasn’t quite gone to plan, coming up short in two runs, but there is still potential there.

Predictions & Tips for Geoffrey Freer Stakes Odds

This looks as if it is going to be a great race as there are so many claims in this one.

We are just going to swing towards HUKUM for this one at 5/1* (betting odds taken from Coral at 23:43 GMT on Friday, 14th August 2020).

That was a big step forward that he took in scoring that Royal Ascot handicap win.

There are stiff challenges coming in from ALIGNAK who put in a career-best effort last time out. MORANDO can’t be dismissed from this either.

It’s wide open all the way.
