Will he deliver the goods?

The winner of last year’s edition was 10 year old WILLIAM HENRY from a 5/1 SP (Nico de Boinville / N J Henderson).

Mcfabulous the 4/5 odds-on favourite in National Spirit Hurdle Odds

MCFABULOUS is a massively improving hurdler for trainer Paul Nicholls.

He returns to action on Sunday as the 4/5 odds-on favourite for this Fontwell fixture* (betting odds recorded at 22:59 GMT on February 27th, 2021 at William Hill).

On his season opener, he was in action at Cheltenham in the Persian War and he bolted up there to get the score in the bag.

There was another very strong run from him at Grade 2 on a 3m trip following that at Newbury, a race won by Thyme Hill.

But there was an immediate response from Mcfabulous as he claimed a comfortable win at Kempton in the Relkeel on his follow up.

That was by more than two lengths and is a massive player in this one.

Given the form and progress that he is showing, it’s hard to look past Mcfabulous for a few reasons.

But some pressure could be applied by the next horse that we are looking at.

Bewin’upastorm capable of upsetting the odds

This may all boil down to BREWIN’UPASTORM and Mcfabulous on the day.

Brewin’Upastorm is such a good horse and he made a huge splash on his return to hurdling last month at Taunton.

He bolted up to get the win in that one after taking a significant drop in grade from some chase efforts this season.

While the fences this season haven’t seen Brewin’upastorm at his very best, he needs to be respected in this one.

Brewin’upastorm is a former Grade 1 winner in novice events so has performed among strong company before.

With a great sharpener for him over the hurdles recently, he easily looks to be the biggest threat to the favourite and is a 5/2 selection* (betting odds recorded at 22:59 GMT on February 27th, 2021 at William Hill).

Can Cornerstone Lad kick on?

Making a return to the timbers as well is CORNERSTONE LAD who is a big 12/1 e/w shot* (betting odds recorded at 22:59 GMT on February 27th, 2021 at William Hill).

He has been in chasing action most recently, getting his first two runs under his belt in that sphere. It’s been a useful output from him there as well.

Cornerstone Lad claimed back to back runners up finishes in those Chase efforts. The most recent of them was 41 days ago at Ayr.

He wasn’t in touch with the winner on the day there and it looks like he does need a little more back in hurdling to get the win.

But a good bold run could easily see him in the picture.

Molly Ollys Wishes seeking a four-timer

Bringing some hot form to the table in this fascinating contest is MOLLY OLLYS WISHES who completed a hattrick recently.

The mare scored at Warwick just 13 days ago to get that hat trick done and she is such a good traveller.

It was a former French Champion hurdle winner that Molly Olly’s Wishes got the better off at Warwick for the score.

So that’s a hattrick under her belt and big form. Can the David Skelton-trained mare get herself into the frame in this one?

She is a 9/1 chance to do so although it does feel as if she may need the other two big players in the field to stumble* (betting odds recorded at 22:59 GMT on February 27th, 2021 at William Hill).

Call Me Lord needs to find more

This looks like being a tough assignment for CALL ME LORD. Last season he did bank the International Hurdle at Cheltenham on a 2m trip.

But he has not been able to back that up anywhere since then. It’s not the hot form that he is bringing to the table in his one, so it is rightly on the outside a bit.

The latest run that Call Me Lord has was in the Relkeel Hurdle at Kempton where he finished fourth behind winner Mcfabulous.

It’s not immediately clear how Call Me Lord is going to turn the tables and is a 14/1 poke in the outright odds* (betting odds recorded at 22:59 GMT on February 27th, 2021 at William Hill)

Can Reserve Tank make a step back towards form?

It has been a strange couple of years for RESERVE TANK who was really coming along well in the 2018/19 hurdles season.

At the end of that campaign, he claimed a couple of Grade 1 victories.

On a move to the fences, he produced a fantastic run at Wincanton, a race that he won in November 2019.

The latest effort from him saw a really disappointing run from Reserve Tank at Cheltenham in March last year. That was after a 103-day break.

He hasn’t been seen since then so is now going to have to try and shrug off a 353-day break.

It feels as if he is going to need a little more game time before getting close to winning something like this.

Reserve Rank is a 14/1 outside shot* (betting odds recorded at 22:59 GMT on February 27th, 2021 at William Hill).

Predictions & Tips for National Spirit HUrdle Racing Odds

Well, we just can’t look past MCFABULOUS for this contest at 4/5 odds-on* (betting odds recorded at 22:59 GMT on February 27th, 2021 at William Hill).

He has really been coming into his own and his performance in the Persian War to kick off the new season was just sublime.

Mcfabulous is the one to beat on Sunday without question.

There should be a strong effort coming in from BREWIN’UPASTORM as he looks to be the one most likely to get close to the favourite.

But in a battle between the two of them, we would have to just support the former.

For our final selection in National Spirit Hurdle we are going with the 12/1 e/w punt on CORNERSTONE LAD* (betting odds recorded at 22:59 GMT on February 27th, 2021 at William Hill).

There was a decent effort from him at Ayr last month and while he needs more now back over the timbers, there are place claims there.
