Zanahiyr 15/8 FAV in Aintree Hurdle Tips

Gordon Elliott’s ZANAHIYR was last seen at the Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival last month.

There was a third place finsih for him in that fixture.

He did have rival Epatante ahead of him in second place in that fixture.

But are there big claims for Zanahiyr knocking over that opponent at Aintree this week?

He has had a good solid season, with a run of three straight Grade 1 runners-up spots before his trip to Cheltenham.

Zanahiyr now moves up in trip, which looks like something that could really get him close.

He goes for last year’s winning yard and that additional half a mile could be crucial for his win chances.

EPATANTE
2/1

Can Epatante tackle the distance successfully

EPATANTE is a speedster and the extra half a mile ahead of Nicky Henderson’s mare on Thursday is very interesting.

She has proven to be a little too keen in her running at times. So she needs to settle into something steady.

But Epatante is such a brilliant performer and it has been a tremendous season for her.

Epatante picked up a dead heat success in the Fighting Fifth and then scored the Christmas Hurdle before her runner-up spot in the Champion Hurdle.

Epatante is not done improving yet.

While she has a very nice weight advantage, the trip does raise a question mark.

Can Brewin’upastorm upset the odds?

BREWIN’UPASTORM struggled in last year’s renewal of the Aintree Hurdle.

But he’s not totally out of it having won over the 2m 4f trip before.

Being a course and distance winner, that puts Brewin’upastorm into the picture for a run at the places.

Brewin’upastorm is at 11/2 in Aintree Hurdle betting odds* (odds recorded at 21:09 GMT on April 27th, 2022 at Coral).

He looks as if he would need to find some major improvement to take down both Epatante and Zanahiyr though.

There have been two wins from four runs this season by the 9-year-old.

He will have the cheekpieces on for the first time on Thursday.

A good second-place finish in the National Spirit Hurdle at Fontwell, ahead of the re-opposing Monmiral, sees him as the best of the rest.

Year Winner Age Jockey Trainer SP
2021 Abacadabras 7 Jack Kennedy Mrs D Foster 5/1
2020 Supasundae 9 Robbie Power H Harrington 15/2
2019 L’Ami Serge 8 Daryl Jacob N Henderson 5/1
2018 Buveur D’Air 6 B J Gerghty N Henderson 4/9
2017 Annie POwer 8 Ruby YWalsh W P Mullins 4/9
2016 Jezki 7 A P McCoy J Harrington 3/1
2015 The New One 6 Sam Twiston-Davies N Twiston-Davies 4/9
2014 Zarkandar 6 Ruby Walsh P Nicholls 11/2
2013 Oscar Whisky 7 B J Geraghty N Henderson 9/4
2012 Oscar Whisky 6 B J Geraghty N Henderson 6/1

Can Monmiral answer some questions?

MONMIRAL looked to be on the road to something special with his performances last season.

It was five wins from five by him in the previous campaign.

But things have gone backwards for him this season.

The term started with him coming home second from last in the Fighting Fifth at Newcastle.

His follow up at the National Spirit Hurdle at Fontwell wasn’t much better.

So the pressure is building on the Paul Nicholls trained 5-year-old to get a revival going.

He could still have a big future ahead of him but from 10/1 doesn’t look ready* (odds recorded at 21:09 GMT on April 27th, 2022 at Coral).

Glory And Fortune no forlorn hope

GLORY AND FORTUNE looks like a player for the places as he makes a move back up in the trip, which should suit him.

There has been clear improvement by him in this campaign, picking up a couple of wins.

One of those was landing the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury on his penultimate run.

Glory And Fortune then took a gallant fifth at the Champion Hurdle, which was no disgrace at all from 150/1* (odds recorded at 21:09 GMT on April 27th, 2022 at Coral).

With that kind of superb attitude then he’s an interesting player over a longer trip.

McFabulous with something to prove

The form this season hasn’t quite been the reason for MCFABULOUS to set him up as a serious threat at Aintree.

He did win a couple of Grade 2 races last year.

Mcfabulous opened the season with a credible runners-up spot in the Relkeel before struggling in the Cleeve Hurdle on his latest.

A break since that January effort at Cheltenham may see him refreshed, but others are preferable with Mcfabulous at 16/1* (odds recorded at 21:09 GMT on April 27th, 2022 at Coral).

Guard Your Dreams faces a big test

There have been nice progress made by GUARD YOUR DREAMS this season. He’s claimed a couple of victories.

But he is the big 25/1 outsider in Aintree Hurdle betting* (odds recorded at 21:09 GMT on April 27th, 2022 at Coral).

This looks like a big ask for him. He was last seen finishing third of six in the National Spirit Hurdle 39 days ago.

Predictions & Tips for race Racing Odds

Can ZANAHIYR turn the tables on EPATANTE when they meet once again? We don’t quite think so.

Zanahiyr will have a bigger chance here because of the distance as he looks to land his first Grade 1 career win.

Zanahiyr is at 15/8 in Aintree Hurdle tips* (odds recorded at 21:09 GMT on April 27th, 2022 at Coral).

But while the trip is a question mark against Epatante, she is such a brilliant performer and hasn’t put a foot wrong in this campaign, that she has to be backed.

Epantante is the pick of the Aintree Hurdle tips at 2/1* (odds recorded at 21:09 GMT on April 27th, 2022 at Coral).

Epatante is in superb hands and being defeated only by the brilliant Honeysuckle at the Champion Hurdle is no disgrace.

The final selection for the shortlist is GLORY AND FORTUNE from 12/1 e/w* (odds recorded at 21:09 GMT on April 27th, 2022 at Coral)

He has made some very nice strides and showed a wonderful attitude to dig in for fifth at the Champions Hurdle from huge odds.
