Pierre Lapin lines up Ascot success

Heading the market for the Commonwealth Cup is Ireland’s PIERRE LAPIN at a current 7/2 quote* (Betting odds taken from Coral at 04:40 GMT on Thursday, 18th June 2020). The 3 year old colt has exploded onto the scene, winning his two racetrack appearances.

He opened with a 6f score at Haydock in May last year and then delivered again at the same distance at Newbury in September. It’s a 272 day break for him, but he should be back sharper, fitter and stronger. He brings some big claims to the big race.

GOLDEN HORDE
6/1

William Hill

GOLDEN HORDE

Another who is likely to be well supported in this field is GOLDEN HORDE who is back from a 265 day break. He was a dual-winner last year scoring 6f wins at Windsor and Goodwood. He continued his progressive form towards the end of last season in some big Group 1 company.

His most recent effort was getting beaten by just a neck by Earth Light at the Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket. He has a good chance and is at an appealing 6/1 quote currently* (Betting odds taken from Coral at 04:40 GMT on Thursday, 18th June 2020).

WOODED

WOODED brings some decent form to the table. He scored on his return recently in the middle of May. That was in Group 3 company at Chantilly when he strolled to a comfortable win.

He has not been out of the top three in any of his five racetrack appearances so far. So Wooded has to be kept on side. That recent win really shapes him well for this effort and is a current 7/1 option* (Betting odds taken from Coral at 04:40 GMT on Thursday, 18th June 2020).

KIMARI

Filly KIMARI makes for a very interesting inclusion in this race. She missed out on a hat trick at the end of last season. After wins at Saratoga and Keeneland, the USA charge was then fourth in a run at Santa Anita in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (Grade 2). Kimari looks to have some great speed potential.

SOUTHERN HILLS

There was a good time at Royal Ascot last year for SOUTHERN HILLS. He claimed the Windsor Castle 12 months ago to break his maiden in one of the best ways possible. He has been kept off the racetrack scene since then, but being in the hands of A P O’Brien and is one to watch on his return.

Other Contenders

DUBAI STATION scored a win on his last run. That was in the Group 3 Pavilion Stakes and was his first run on the all-weather. He dug out that win and doesn’t look the most polished but is one to watch.

LOPE Y FERNANDEZ is up there near the head of the market are his great run at the recent Irish 2000 Guineas. He claimed third place in that one. He has some experience on his side although he is up there in the weights.

There is some potential resting on the shoulders of ROYAL CRUSADE as he comes back into action. He made his debut at Newmarket in August and scored at 7f. He followed that up with a couple of group races and finished runner-up in both.

Predictions & Tips

We are going to lean towards GOLDEN HORDE for this contest. His form at the Middle Park was absolutely superb and he looks to be getting better all the time. He is well respected and we fancy him to do the job as he’s been pitted against some of the best young sprinters around, before.

Yes, there is the threat of PIERRE LAPIN who is shaping up to be a fantastic horse. He comes in hot and warrants massive respect. There are stacks of improvement to come for him as well, but inexperienced could work against him.

The other that we really like the look of is KIMARI. She brings some great juvenile form over from the States with her and is used to facing some top company. She could shine on her UK debut.
