Doubly Clever expected to go well

8 year old DOUBLY CLEVER is heading up the market currently at 11/8* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 20:15 GMT on Thursday 11th June 2020). The last run that he had was in the Pertemps Network Final at Cheltenham this year.

So this is a huge drop down in grade for him. He was 20th out of a field of 24 for the Cheltenham Festival as he looked to be taking on a bit too much. Doubly Clever scored a double at Worcester earlier this season, but has struggled to follow up since.

After his hurdling exploits, the handicapper has been pretty fair to him and this kind of company could be just the bump that he needs.

REASSURANCE
15/2

William Hill

Reassurance can reward punters

The last run that REASSURANCE had was at Wolverhampton over a 14f trip. So she will be looking for a little extra in terms of distance in this one but has been fairly handicapped. Comes back after a 242-day break and should be a contender from 15/2* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 20:15 GMT on Thursday 11th June 2020)

Can Ormesher continue solid form?

ORMESHER will be coming into action for the first time since wind surgery. So that could be a boost for him. He took back to back third-place finishes before taking on a 21f trip in heavy going at Sedgefield in his last effort. Ormesher trailed home last.

It hasn’t been a spectacular career in the flat, but this kind of company looks manageable. He is up at 15/2 in the current betting market* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 20:15 GMT on Thursday 11th June 2020).

Can Power Home take it?

POWER HOME will be looking for a response to a fairly poor showing last time out. The Irish mare was second from last in a 14f effort at Wolverhampton in February. Before that she had scored at the same course and distance, so it’s that which will see her bring some claims.

Going off a mark of 64 will be a bit of a concern however but a reasonable e/w option at 12/1* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 20:15 GMT on Thursday 11th June 2020).

Other contenders

This isn’t the most talented of fields to be fair. But we will look at some other options. LONDONIA is an interesting one after landing a win at Southwell in February. He was just seen last week when he got his pace all wrong in a 12f handicap at Newcastle.

BIRD FOR LIFE is taking on a significant extra trip in this one. In 2019 he scored twice in all-weather. His last two efforts have been below par (in the space of 4 months), but will the shakeup in trip play into his hands?

Going from top weight is WITH PLEASURE who is a course winner. It’s 231 days since he last had a run on the flat, but took on a hurdle effort 113 days ago. He pulled up in that. This will be his first effort at 2m all-weather.

Predictions & Tips

This field is taking some digging through as not even the outright favourite DOUBLY CLEVER jumps off the page. It’s been a long time since he found himself in this sphere.

So that is a little variable meaning that we don’t know what to expect from him and therefore he’s worth avoiding. REASSURANCE just shades things for us as she wasn’t hit too hard by the handicap for a 2nd place at Redcar two races ago.

The only other name that we can really pick out of the list to have a run at the win is ORMESHER. He’s back from wind surgery and has been well treated by the handicapper to give him a chance.
