16:10 Ascot Wokingham Stakes Odds & Tips: Coral offer 6/1 on Bielsa – 20th June 2020

Mubakker can come through a competitive field to take the Wokingham Stakes

Horse Racing Betting

Race 7 from Ascot on Saturday, the penultimate fixture on the card is the Wokingham Stakes. This is a 6f contest which is open to 3-year-olds and above.

This is a Class 2 handicap for which there are 24 declared.

After a couple of back to back long-priced winners (Out Do at 25/1 in 2017 and Bacchus at 33/1 in 2018) it was one of the front runners Cape Byron who won last year’s renewal in a blisteringly quick time.

Just one of the last eight winners of the Wokingham Stakes was under a 100 official rating at the time.

Can Bielsa hold off his rivals?

The progressive BIELSA secured a win in three of his four runs in the last campaign. The 5-year-old is lightly raced and has that on his side.

He actually still looks like he has plenty to go in his career and even though he has been slapped with an 8lb rise, he’s a threat.

After having his winning streak snapped in the Portland at Doncaster in September, he impressed back on top of his game in his very next run to secure a 6f success back at the venue, easing clear of Pendleton by a couple of lengths.

He is currently a 6/1 option at the head of the market* (betting odds taken from Coral at 05:21 GMT on Friday, 19th June 2020).

MUBAKKER
6/1

Coral

MUBAKKER

Not to be dismissed with all the support that he is getting is MUBAKKER who is the current 6/1 joint-favourite* (betting odds taken from Coral at 05:21 GMT on Friday, 19th June 2020). This is another lightly raced horse, who made a good impression on a recent return.

Following a break of about eight months, Mubakker delivered a great win in a field stacked with seasoned handicappers. That was on the all-weather track at Newcastle in early June and trainer Sir Michael Stoute has a horse with big claims in this one. It has been three wins in his last four runs.

SUMMERGHAND

Taking fifth in last year’s renewal of the Wokingham Stakes was SUMMERGHAND. He is only up 1lb from that effort and has to be one to consider for the shortlist in this race.

He will enter the calculations based on his recent effort and he closed out last year with a win at Wolverhampton.

Some decent runs at Meydan and a second on his last trip at Newmarket put him in good shape from an appealing 12/1 quote* (betting odds taken from Coral at 05:21 GMT on Friday, 19th June 2020).

HIGHLAND DRESS

Carrying some good form into this one is HIGHLAND DRESS who has won his last two outings. So he’s in the frame for a hattrick and with some low-mileage could bring some very decent claims.

It has been all positive stuff from the 4-year-old gelding since the winter break. There’s a decent chance he can carry some of that momentum forward as well and certainly not one to overlook from 11/1* (betting odds taken from Coral at 05:21 GMT on Friday, 19th June 2020).

JACK’S POINT

JACK’S POINT has had some good format since the winter break as well. He returned with an excellent win at Newmarket in handicap company earlier this month.

He hit the crossbar in this week’s Buckingham Palace Handicap as well, coming home second on the opening day of the Ascot Festival.

Other Contenders

DANZENO is a steady hand and he goes at the top weight in this one. Even with that, he should be respected as he’s capable of putting forth a good account of himself.

He has won at Ascot before and may offer some decent 20/1 e/w interest for some* (betting odds taken from Coral at 05:21 GMT on Friday, 19th June 2020).

Heading into action will be TINTO who just scored a good win at Newmarket a couple of weeks ago. He took out Summerghand in that one as well. This is a course and distance winner who looks right bang back in form based on his last race. He has to come in highly respected.

Last season MR LUPTON scored a Group 2 win at the Curragh. He doesn’t immediately look to be in the shape to win this amongst some really stiff company, not up in the weights. But he did show well to get a recent fourth place in the Abernant Stakes recently.

Predictions & Tips

This is a competitive race and we are going to swing things towards the interesting MUBAKKER to get this one. His impressive Newcastle win recently is what stands out for us and he looks to be hitting his peak as a late bloomer.

It looks as if he can stand toe to toe with BIELSA anyway in this competitive renewal. He has scored since coming back from winter break and should be in the frame.

HIGHLAND DRESS has all sorts of appeal for us as well in this fixture. His form has leapt forward in the right direction and his chances of coming up trumps can’t be dismissed.

The other that was like is SUMMERGHAND who looks better on these terms than when beaten by Tinto recently. Summerghand fought well in last year’s effort and could show well again.
