PGA Shell Houston Open Golf Golf Betting Info

Big field out in action again this week as we head towards next week’s Masters. We saw a return to winning ways for Tiger Woods at Bay Hill last week and the season moves on to Texas and the Redstone Tournament Course. This is an important event, because the challenges in Houston are very similar to those which the players will face at Augusta next week. The big scoring opportunities are going to be coming on the par 5’s and there is an absolute priority in sticking the approach shots on the green. If the player’s can stick it on there, then the players with the best scrambling games are going to be in prominence. This is one of the hardest courses on the PGA for scrambling so again, you need to look for someone with high accuracy in your PGA Shell Houston Open Golf Betting

PGA Shell Houston Open Golf Golf Betting Defending Champion

Phil Mickelson is the defending champion here, although he wasn’t accurate on the fairways last year. That just highlights that the game needed here is controlled iron work. Jointly holds the course record as well here. A solid enough season so far for Mickelson, who will naturally want to build some further momentum for Augusta. He has a win under his belt this season at the AT&T Pebble Beach and lost in a play off in the Northern Trust Open. Didn’t set the field alight at the Arnold Palmer last week, but should be a strong option here with his track record. His iron work will put him in line to eat up birdies here. Mickelson goes as second favourite at 13/1 with Boylesports.

PGA Shell Houston Open Golf Golf Betting Favourite

England’s Lee Westwood tees off in Houston as the tournament favourite at a price of 12/1 with Bet Victor. Nothing wrong with Westwood’s game this season and has looked solid from early on. Has two top ten’s this season on the PGA Tour, and this is his first time out since the WGC Cadillac where he only just broke the top thirty. That was in contrast to his general form, where had landed six top twenties in a row. Has to be in contention here, because he has been inside the top ten here before and he leads the PGA in Greens In Regulation. Pretty much the factor that will dominate the leader-board over the weekend. Fired in a T30 last season in Shell Houston Open Golf Betting, but is in better shape here twelve months later.

Other Contenders

Good field in contention here with Keegan Bradley looking a very solid bet as he has produced a very consistent season. Good enough on the greens with the putter at the moment to make a strong move here, and he has consistently produced the goods in scrambling. Has two top ten finishes this season and has finished inside the Top 25 on all eight of his trips this season. Just very solid in the all round game and would firmly expect him to be inside the top ten. Steve Stricker also has the natural game with the irons to produce the goods here. He is ranked fifth on the PGA for Greens in Regulation and finished T4 here last year, which was his fourth top-eleven finish at the event in five starts. This makes Stricker a very natural fit here in your Shell Houston Open Golf Betting. Has a win at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions this season and heads here on the back of a T8 at the WGC Cadillac back in mid March, so should be fresh.

Charl Schwartzel has to be worth a look here as he has a bit of a track record with a T3 at the Shell Houston Open back in 2010 at the Redstone Tournament Course. Schwartzel is pretty much the go-to man for scrambling under pressure as that is where he excels. He disappointed at Transitional but that should just be a blip on an other very good record. Schwartzel is supremely consistent and controlled and has a fantastic all round game. He and Stricker are well worth a look. Graeme McDowell, after his good shot at Bay Hill and the rediscovered consistency of Ernie Els are also worth considering.

Best Outside Bet

We are going to dip down the list for a solid contender but one who is tracking behind the main pack and that is Aaron Baddeley. Has landed three back to back top fifteens this season heading towards Houston and was in superb form at Redstone last season. He finished T4 in 2011, but was firing in birdies very well. He is red hot with the putter, sitting fourth in Strokes Gained Putting in the PGA at the moment. Decent shot at 35/1 with Bet365.
