Belmont Stakes Race Details
The 2022 Belmont Stakes is the 154th edition and it will be the 111th time that it has been hosted at Belmont Park.
The racetrack is in Elmont, New York and the race is on the dirt at a distance of one and a half miles.
It is the longest of the three American Triple Crown races. There is a massive purse of $1.5 million on the Belmont Stakes this year.
Is there a Triple Crown on the line at the Belmont Stakes 2022?
There won’t be a Triple Crown attempt grabbing the headlines during the build-up to the Belmont Stakes racing tips. THat’s because the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes were won by different horses.
Rich Strike picked up the Kentucky Derby, before taking on pass on even running at the Preakness which was won by Early Voting.
Early Voting did not take part in the Kentucky Derby and that highlights how much connections value just getting a win in one of the Triple Crown events, let alone pushing to win all three.
The last Triple Crown winner was Justify in 2018, trained by Bob Baffert.

Who is the favourite in 2022 Belmont Stakes Racing Odds?
MO DONEGAL is the current 2/1 favourite in Belmont Stakes racing odds* (odds taken at 22:33 GMT on June 7th, 2022 at Unibet).
He is a classy one and gets the boost of having Irad Ortiz Jr in the saddle as well.
The breeding is certainly there for Mo Donegal at this trip and looks like being a major threat in the Belmont 2022.
He is a real closer of a horse and goes for trainer Todd Pletcher who has won three previous editions of this famous race.
Mo Donegal did run in the Kentucky Derby but was drawn right on the rail, the worst spot he possibly could have received.
There was so much work for him to do just to try and get around the pack and into any kind of position.
Despite a late rally he couldn’t get in the places. That was the first time in his career that he had finished out of the Places.
That leaves Mo Donegal with three wins from six efforts.
Two of those were at a distance of a mile and a quarter, so should push on well to this bigger distance.
Can We The People live up to the hype?
Beautiful Bay WE THE PEOPLE was the Morning Line favourite after the draw for the Belmont Stakes 2022 was announced.
It has been three wins in four runs by him and he has such a cracking turn of speed.
Flavien Prat is in the saddle who rode Hot Rod Charlie to a second place finish in last year’s edition. That was Prat’s debut in the Belmont.
A lot of the hype about We The People is his bold front running style.
He likes to dictate, and he goes from the rail in Saturday’s run, giving him a big, big chance.
If We The People gets a clean break then he will get his way of setting the tempo.

Can Rich Strike prove a point?
The huge 80/1 winner of this year’s Kentucky Derby RICH STRIKE looks to prove that he is not just a one-hit-wonder.
He skipped the Preakness after his score at the Kentucky Derby, so will look to end this Triple Crown campaign as he started.
It was one of those days at Churchill Downs where everything just fell into place for the outsider.
But there’s more to Rich Strike’s Derby win than the luck of course.
His form was on a positive upward curve before that and he is better on the dirt than anywhere else.
Rich Strike has the breeding to succeed at this one and a half mile trip too.

Creative Minister needs a career-best
Having been sent into the Preakness after skipping the Kentucky Derby, CREATIVE MINISTER made an impact.
He was expected to struggle against some top company but was guided home in third.
The Creative Minister was running on well, suggesting that this distance will suit him nicely.
He was never going to get the win at the Preakness, but that was just his fourth racetrack appearance.
All four of Creative Minister’s runs have been this year. He’s not without potential at least in terms of place claims.

Nest fancied to get in the picture
NEST is a very interesting runner in the line-up for the Belmont Stakes 2022 and he is another of Todd Pletcher’s entries.
Pletcher’s first-ever Belmont winner was a filly, Rags to Riches in 2007.
Nest looks like a high-class filly from Pletcher who could well follow in the footsteps of Rags to Riches.
There was a run in the Kentucky Oaks for Nest last month, putting in a nice finish to take a runner-up spot.
Breeding and speed rating puts her firmly in the frame against this Belmont lineup.
Another key factor in the chances of 13/2 shot Nest is the extra distance that she faces.
In the Kentucky Oaks, she looked as if she needed longer and carried three-time Belmont-winning jockey Luis Ortiz Jr.
Secretariat’s Great Belmont Record
- The brilliant Secretariat still holds the speed record at the Belmont Stakes over the 1m 4f distance.
- He set a flat 2:24 time on his way to victory in 1973. He won that race, collecting the Triple Crown in the process, but a staggering 31 lengths.

There was a sixth-place finish for BARBER ROAD in the Kentucky Derby this year, finishing almost five lengths back of winner Rich Strike.
With two wins only from nine runs in his career he probably has something to find to make the places on this longer trip.
Skippy Longstocking 12/1

The draw is helpful for SKIPPYLONGSTOCKING was a fifth-place finisher in the Preakness Stakes.
He pretty much stayed in the middle of the pack the entire race, not having anything to offer. The extra distance looks like a question mark as well.
Golden Glider 16/1

There are a few quality closers in this Belmont line-up and GOLDEN GLIDER is one of them, but this looks like a tough ask.
He was heavily beaten by We the People in the Peter Pan Stakes back in mid-May, with connections hoping that a quicker pace on a longer trip will help
