Last year’s losing semi-finalist Maria Sakkari should have the upper hand in this contest.
The world number four shot has enough to move past this first round challenge.
This will be her first-ever match against France’s Clara Burel.
Sakkari carries a 19/9 season record into the French Open with her.
She looks to get her season back on track after struggling a bit to get going on the clay.
Clara Burel is ranked 94th in the world after racing up the rankings to break the top 100 last year.
Burel has lost 10 of 15 matches this season. Sakkari has a good 17-3 record in Grand Slam in matches against players outside of the top 50 since 2019.
Just because Sakkari has had some uncharacteristic defeats recently, we’ll back Burel to keep the score respectable.

The 37-year-old former champion Wawrinka faces a tricky first round challenge.

In none of his last eight matches has he gotten through a match without dropping a set.
Corentin Moutet isn’t really in much form himself.
It’s been a W1 L2 record in three matches by him on clay.
There has been one previous meeting between the two players, which was won by Moutet in Doha in January 2020.
We expect things to go the same way with the Frenchman outlasting Wawrinka.
