He completed a hattrick a month ago when he took a Grade 3 at Churchill Down by 4 lengths.

There was a Grade 1 victory in the Pennsylvania Derby Stakes 42 days for him on his latest run.

Hot Rod Charlie has been beaten by both Medina Spirit (who is coming up next) and Essential Quality in big races this year.

Those losses came in the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont respectively.

Can Baffert do it again with Medina Spirit?

Famed trainer Bob Baffert landed last year’s Breeders’ Cup with Authentic and has another bold one lining up on the weekend.

He was last seen at Belmont Park a month ago, collecting a Grade 1 Woodward Stakes victory on a slightly shorter trip than this.

Art Collector has come a long way since getting a heavy beating in last year’s Breeders’ Cup meeting when he was well down the field in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile.

He is not out of place in this big line up and warrants some respect for the shortlist.

The Rest Of The Runners

TRIPOLI was a little bit short on his latest run. He was well behind Medina Spirit in a Grade 1 run at Santa Anita. There were two more of Saturday’s re-opposing rivals ahead of him in that one too. Tripoli has a lot to find on current form.

EXPRESS TRAIN was third in a Grade 1 Santa Anita effort 35 days ago, finding a place ahead of the aforementioned Tripoli. Still, he was well beaten all the same by Medina Spirit and it’s hard to see how he closes the gap.

MAX PLAYER has run into some good form with back to back wins. He’s a superb stayer and will just grind and grind. The latest of his was a Group 1 at Saratoga. This is tougher, but Max Player is no forlorn hope for it.

STILLETO BOY is another with a lot to find at Del Mar on the weekend. He doesn’t have the form that suggests he will rate as a danger. He has fallen to Medina Spirit the last twice by fair distances. This would be something special.

Predictions & Tips for Breeders’ Cup Racing Racing Odds

What a line-up. This is one for the ages as the quality in this year’s renewal is just overflowing.

ESSENTIAL QUALITY is the first name on the shortlist. He has continued in a very good heart since taking his big win at Belmont Stakes in June.

His Grade 1 win last time out suggests that he is still in top form and reading to launch a big challenge.

MEDINA SPIRIT is quality all of the way and looks to be peaking just perfectly right now to take on this challenge.

On his day, if he brings top form, then Bob Baffert’s charge is going to take some beating with the Kentucky Derby in his pocket this year.

But it’s his form at the Awesome Again at Santa Anita where he took on older competitors for the first time which stands out.

He destroyed the field there, kindling a chunk of these.

KNICKS GO should have a chance as well in this one.

The big piece of form that he brings to the table is his victory in the Whitney on his penultimate.

This is a high-quality race and he is going to need to be at his very best again to get his nose in front at Del Mar.
