Champions League Tips – October 27th, 2018

We are getting down to the nitty-gritty now in the UEFA Champions League group stage. Groups could be decided on Tuesday night, including Manchester City getting a win at Lyon. Real Madrid also have the chance to claim a group win with a game to spare if they can go and win out in Italy against Roma.

Here is our round up of some of Tuesday night’s other UEFA Champions League tips and predictions for Tuesday, November 27th 2018.

Bayern Munich v Benfica – 8.00 pm

We really haven’t seen the best of Bayern Munich this season at all and they were held to a Bundesliga draw against Dusseldorf on the weekend, a side who are in the bottom two. Bayern are in a comfortable position in their Champions League group though and only need a draw to qualify. They will get through in top spot if they win on the night and Ajax don’t. Bayern took a comfortable 2-0 away win against Benfica on matchday one and the Portuguese have struggled to keep pace.

It should be a home win by the boat can be pushed to a Bayern Munich to win to nil option at 11/10 odds* (betting odds taken from bet365 on November 26th, 2018 at 9:32 pm).

Hoffenheim v Shakhtar Donetsk – 8.00 pm

This is action from Group F which is also Manchester City’s group. A win will keep Hoffenheim in contention for a top-two finish, so they have big incentive as they turn out on home soil in this one. Shakhtar aren’t out of the running for the top two but there’s a long way up for the bottom side. They will be finishing fourth in the group if they lose this one. They have yet to win in the group having picked up just the two points so far but then neither have the Germans who are on three points. So plenty of draws that these two have picked up including the thrilling 2-2 draw between them on matchday one. Of the two, without a shadow of a doubt, it has been Hoffenheim who have played the better football and can take their chances on home soil against a Shakhtar side who have conceded at least two goals in each of their games so far.

There’s good appeal in a win for Hoffenheim here on home soil. We are going to resist the temptation to go digging any deeper than the 3/4 odds on the home success* (betting odds taken from bet365 on November 26th, 2018 at 9:32 pm).

Juventus v Valencia – 8.00 pm

Juve suffered a shock loss somehow, grabbing defeat from the jaws of victory on matchday four in Turin against Manchester United. They are still two points clear at the top of the table and they only need a point out of this one to guarantee that they will be in the next round. A win for Juve will preserve that two-point lead if Manchester United beat Young Boys at Old Trafford on the same night. Juventus really are not a side who are going to go out and slip up very often, certainly not on home soil. They are W15 D1 L1 in all competitions this season home and away.

They were comfortable 2.0 winners in Spain earlier in the campaign and we are going to back another Juventus to win to nil option at 5/4 odds* (betting odds taken on November 26th, 2018 at 9:32 pm)

AEK Athens v Ajax – 8.00 pm

This is action from Bayern Munich’s group. Who needs what in this one? Ajax will be through to the knockout stage of the competition with a win. If they don’t win and Benfica fail to beat Bayern Munich on the night, then Ajax will still be through. So they are in a pretty good position here and have picked up an unbeaten run of W2 D2 form which includes a draw at Bayern Munich and an easy 3-0 win over AEK Athens back on matchday one. This looks to be another fairly routine outcome to call.

Ajax have done very well in the group stage so far and were comfortable against AEK Athens in the first meeting. The Greeks aren’t likely to have enough at the back to withstand the quality that Ajax have. Away win at 7/10 odds* (betting odds taken from bet365 on November 26th, 2018 at 9:32 pm).

CSKA Moscow v Plzen – 5.55 pm

This is action from Real Madrid’s group where Roma are actually leading the way heading into Tuesday night’s action. CSKA have to come up with a win to keep their hopes of finishing in the top two alive until matchday six. As for Plzen, they have to avoid defeat to avoid finishing bottom of the group. There has actually been decent stuff produced by both of these along the way. CSKA Moscow pulled off that shock home win over Real Madrid, while Plzen really should have beaten (or at the very least have gotten a point) against the Spaniards at the Bernabeu. The two played out a 2-2 draw when they met on matchday one, Moscow equalising from a 95th-minute penalty kick.

It is probably worth sticking with the home advantage in his one and not getting any more complicated than that. CSKA to win is at 4/5 odds* (betting odds taken from bet365 on November 26th, 2018 at 9:32 pm)
