Champions League winner odds have had a shake up following the draws for the quarter finals and semi finals. On July 10th, the draws were made for this season’s Champions League.

Because of the interruption to the season there will be a change to the format for the Quarter Finals and Semi Finals.

All of those games will be played during a mini-tournament hosted in Portugal in August.

The ties will be straight knockouts played over just one leg to cut down on matches and travel.

Quarter Finals

Already through to the quarter finals are Atalanta, PSG, RB Leipzig and Atletico Madrid.

The stoppage in the Champions League season came with the round of sixteen not having been completed.

So there are still four ties to be settled, more of which will be looked at below.

For now, the Champions League quarter finals will start on Wednesday August 12th.

The full draw for that is as follows

Atalanta (ITA) vs Paris Saint-Germain (FRA)

Wednesday 12 August: Paris have failed to win any of their last eight games against Serie A opposition (D6 L2).

This quarter final will be the first time that Atlanta and PSG have met.

Match odds: PSG 11/10, Draw 16/5, Atalanta 19/10

Leipzig (GER) vs Atlético (ESP)

Thursday 13 August: RB Leipzig have never met Atletico Madrid before. So this is more new ground for the German side.

Atletico have won each of their last eight knockout ties against German opposition.

Match Odds: Atletico Madrid 5/4, Draw 23/10, RB Leipzig 11/5

Friday 14 August
Napoli (ITA) / Barcelona (ESP) vs Chelsea (ENG) / Bayern München (GER)

Saturday 15 August
Real Madrid (ESP) / Manchester City (ENG) vs Lyon (FRA) / Juventus (ITA)

Round of 16 ties to be settled

So there is still some unsettled business at the round of sixteen stage, which leaves Champions League betting open at the moment in terms of the final eight not having been confirmed.

Despite that, Bayern Munich, who are still one of the terms to confirm their quarter final spot, are the current joint favourites to win outright.

Bayern Munich are 10/3 joint favourites alongside Manchester City* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 22:24 GMT on Tuesday, 14th July 2020).

So let’s revisit the outstanding round of sixteen ties that are up in the air.

Juventus v Lyon

Lyon lead 1-0
To Qualify Odds: Juventus 10/11, Lyon 10/11* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 22:43 GMT on Tuesday, 14th July 2020)
August 7th

The Old Lady have to mount a fight back in this tie after having fallen to a surprise 1-0 loss in France. However, there is a big consideration here to take into mind.

The French league was totally shut down and the season ended early, so that is a massive disadvantage for Lyon.

Juventus meanwhile are taking strides towards another domestic league title, so have much more match sharpness behind them.

Juventus are a strong 4/9 odds-on quote to win the second leg* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 22:24 GMT on Tuesday, 14th July 2020).

Key Facts – Juventus v Lyon Betting Tip

  • Juve are W3 D1 L1 in their last five against Lyon
  • Juventus have never lost at home to a French team (W11 D3)
  • Lyon are W2 L5 in two-legged knockout ties against Italian opposition

Manchester City v Real Madrid

Man City lead 2-1
To Qualify Odds: Man City 1/10, Real Madrid 6/1* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 22:43 GMT on Tuesday, 14th July 2020)

August 7th

It’s back to home advantage at the Etihad for Manchester City as they look to reach the final eight.

Their Premier League duties are essentially over as they have locked down second place with games to spare.

They will have a break of just over a week between the end of the Premier League and this game.

It’s a 2-1 lead that Pep Guardiola’s men have after their first leg visit to the Bernabeu. That was a special night for the Citizens. Can they finish the job?

Real Madrid are big 15/4 underdogs to win the second leg out on the road at the Etihad.

Key Facts – Man City vs Real Madrid Betting Tip

  • Man City have scored 32 goals in their last 11 Champions League matches
  • The Citizens are W1 L4 in two-legged knockout ties against Spanish opposition
  • Real Madrid are on a 7 match winning streak away from home in the round of sixteen

Barcelona v Napoli

The tie is level at 1-1
To Qualify Odds: Barcelona 4/11, Napoli 2/1* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 22:43 GMT on Tuesday, 14th July 2020)

August 8th

Barcelona got an away goal on the board in their 1-1 draw in Naples in the first leg of this contest.

They are going to be hungry for this with their league title defence in Spain not quite going how they would have wanted.

Barcelona are 4/7 odds-on to win the second leg of this tie in their own backyard* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 22:43 GMT on Tuesday, 14th July 2020).

Napoli have been in good form since coming back from the break. Will they be able to pull off a big night at the Nou Camp?

Key Facts – Barcelona vs Napoli Betting Tip

  • Barcelona are unbeaten at home in the UCL for almost 7 years
  • The Catalans have lost 2 of their last 30 Champions League matches only
  • Napoli have only won 7 of their last 21 Champions League matches

Bayern Munich v Chelsea

Bayern lead 3-0
To Qualify Odds: Bayern Munich 1/250, Chelsea 40/1* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 22:24 GMT on Tuesday, 14th July 2020)

August 8th

Chelsea easily have the toughest route to get to the quarter finals. They faced a 3-0 deficit against the reigning Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

The Germans finished their league campaign at the end of June. Chelsea won’t finish theirs until the end of July.

Will that extended break away from competitive action for Bayern have any effect on the outcome of this tie?

Bayern will also be heavy favourites to win the second leg and they are 4/9 currently to do that* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 22:24 GMT on Tuesday, 14th July 2020).

Chelsea didn’t have an answer to anything that Bayern Munich produced against them in the first leg and therefore Frank Lampard’s men are going to face an even tougher time in Germany.

Bayern were the only team to win all six matches in this season’s group stage.

Key Facts – Bayern Munich v Chelsea Betting Tip

  • Bayern Munich are W10 L6 against English clubs in two-legged ties
  • Chelsea have failed to win any of their last seven knockout stage away games in the UCL
  • Bayern have only lost one of 25 previous UEFA ties after having won the first leg away

Champions League Semi Final Draw

Importantly, looking ahead at Champions League betting, we also know who could be on a potential collision course with who in the semi finals.

Tuesday 18 August
Leipzig (GER) / Atlético (ESP) vs Atalanta (ITA) / Paris Saint-Germain (FRA)

Wednesday 19 August
Real Madrid (ESP) / Manchester City (ENG) / Lyon (FRA) / Juventus (ITA) vs Napoli (ITA) / Barcelona (ESP) / Chelsea (ENG) / Bayern München (GER)

So perhaps the stand-out thing about the semi final draw is that if Manchester City were to finish the job against Real Madrid in the round of sixteen, they could potentially be facing either Barcelona or Bayern Munich in the final four.

There is also a potential for a Real Madrid vs Barcelona semi final clash as well.

The tournament has been cut down in size this season, but there is still a long road ahead for the eventual winner.

But for now, it is Manchester City and Bayern Munich who the bookies think are the strongest in the tournament.

They are the joint 10/3 favourites in Champions League winner odds* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 22:24 GMT on Tuesday, 14th July 2020).
