Barossa Red heads the Roxwell Handicap field

The last time that BAROSSA RED came back from an extended break he scored a win at Haydock in an 8f contest. He signed off his 2019 followed that with a second-place finish in a 13k handicap in early September.

Barossa Red is such a wonderfully consistent performer and is rarely outside of the places. He does generally come up well when fresh, so that’s the conditions he goes in.

Barossa Red should be in the mix and is the current 5/4 favourite* (betting odds taken from Paddy Power at 02:33 GMT on Monday, June 8th 2020).

MAYFAIR SPIRIT
4/1

Paddy Power

Mayfair Spirit warrants big respect

In his last action of 2019 MAYFAIR SPIRIT collected a win at Chelmsford City, keeping Amjaady behind him in that contest. It was a narrow win by a short head, but he got there.

It has been five wins in his last seven races now and brings some big claims at 4/1 with which to take on the favourite* (betting odds taken from Paddy Power at 02:33 GMT on Monday, June 8th 2020).

This is a super progressive horse and all that he has taken on for his C&D success is 2lb so he should be able to handle that.

Geetanjali to get in the frame

5-year-old mare GEETANJALI is one to watch for this contest as well as she comes back down from Class 2 and Class 3 action. The last race that she had was at Kempton right at the end of October last year and took 3rd of 9.

Consistent and strong and the form is there, aside from a Class 2 blowout at Newmarket in October for the British Ebf Premier Fillies’ Handicap. She is well worth respecting for the contest on her game.

Can the consistent Amjaady find a winning touch?

4-year-old AMJAADY is a good consistent runner as well. His last three efforts have all been at Class 3 and he has been inside the top three in each.

Amjaady was just missing a win, and perhaps the end of last season came too soon as he was knocking on the door. This will be his seventh attempt on the all-weather, yet to taste success away from the turf.

Other Contenders

MARBELLA closed out 2019 with some nice form and finally broke her maiden at Angers. She seems to have been slapped with a hefty mark of 84 for this contest though.

Preferring a return to the flat will be RAFIOT who had a tough time of things over the hurdles. He showed some useful early form and did score at Cagnes-sur-Mer in January in a newcomers race.

More will have been expected of SECRET ART towards the back end of last season. It didn’t arrive and just couldn’t seem to find form anywhere. He is a course and distance winner, however.

RITCHIE VALENS is with a new stable and well-handicap actually for this contest. He ran out of steam on his last appearance at Newbury in August, the handicap getting the better of him.

Another of the preferred flat runners is RHOSNEIGR who did have a crack at the hurdles. He does make for a reasonable outsider option here among this company.

Rounding off the previs is MASKED IDENTITY who doesn’t bring much form or much of anything to table. It’s been an absence of six months for him.

Predictions & Tips

There was a close contest as mentioned above between MAYFAIR SPIRIT and AMJAADY at C&D in September. This is a good race full of decent claims and does look like being the one to beat.

An outside shot is RHOSNEIGR who switches back to the flat after a successful hurdle showing last time out. He does make a good fit for these conditions and has won one of three runs at distance.

We have to swing back to AMJAADY for place claims then. He’s just a very consistent runner and no reason to suspect that he won’t turn out another solid performance.
