Champ to make an expected bold challenge in Cheltenham's Cleeve Hurdle

One of the big Grade 2 races from the Cheltenham Trials Day on Saturday is the Cleeve Hurdle.

This testing 3m trip features one of the potential stars of this year’s Festival, which is Champ.

Will the progressive chaser come out on top in this field to stay in red-hot form before the 2022 Cheltenham Festival?

Champ 1/2 FAV in Cheltenham Cleeve Hurdle Racing Odds

The clear front-runner in this Cleeve Hurdle betting field is CHAMP at 1/2* (odds recorded at 21:09 GMT on April 27th, 2021 at Coral).

It’s a little hard to argue with that as well considering that he comes back into action after winning the Long Walk at Ascot last month.

That Grade 1 one success for Nicky Henderson’s 10-year-old just proves that he is equally as good over the fences as he has been over the timbers.

The former RSA Chase winner had the better of both Thyme Hill and Paisley Park at Ascot.

Champ is firmly trending towards the Stayers’ Hurdle at the 2022 Cheltenham Festival.

He may well be tough to knock over in this contest.

Can Mcfabulous improve further?

While he is unexposed at this 3m trip, MCFABULOUS should pique some interest in Cleeve Hurdle betting on the weekend.

He was last seen a month ago, making a reappearance at Cheltenham in the Relkeel on January 1st, 2022.

That ended in a runner-up spot to Stormy Island which was no disgrace on the day.

Mcfabulous still looks like he has progress to make in this sphere.

He did bank a couple of Grade 2 wins last season.

Mcfabulous is a quote of 4/1 in racing betting for Saturday’s contest* (odds recorded at 21:09 GMT on January 28th, 2021 at Coral).

Trainer Paul Nicholls will probably be very keen to see what he can do at this 3m trip ahead of the Festival. It’s just his second time at the distance.

Can Paisely Park land a revival?

PAISLEY PARK is a huge Cheltenham favourite and connections will be hoping to see a little more from him on Saturday.

He hasn’t looked quite the force of old on his last three runs.

However, Paisley Park has won the last two editions of the Cleeve Hurdle. So he can’t totally be dismissed in Saturday’s run.

Paisley Park was last seen in December at the Long Walk.

In that Ascot test he finished behind winner Champ and runner-up Thyme Hill.

He was never going to get there for the win, and Paisley Park is 5/1 to secure the Cleeve Park hat trick* (odds recorded at 21:09 GMT on January 28th, 2021 at Coral).

Lisnagaar Oscar seeks a revival

Another that has not been the force of old is LISNAGAR OSCAR as it’s been a while since anyone has seen him to the best effect.

The 2020 Stayers’ Hurdle winner hasn’t claimed a victory since that course and distance score.

He did go to Ascot for the Long Walk last month and churned out a bit of a stinker before being pulled up.

Connections throw the cheekpieces on now as they seek to get Lisnagar Oscar going again.

But it looks unlikely for the 25/1 outsider* (odds recorded at 21:09 GMT on January 28th, 2021 at Coral).

Dandy Mag with too much to find?

The rank outsider for this contest is DANDY MAG who is quite difficult to make a case for.

Reading back through his form, even if he was to run anywhere near his best, it would likely be good enough to yield a win at this grade.

Dandy Mag was a runner-up at Wincanton on Boxing Day, in what was his first run for a new yard.

Dandy Mag lines up as the 66/1 outsider* (odds recorded at 21:09 GMT on January 28th, 2021 at Coral).

Predictions & Tips for Cheltenham Cleeve Hurdle Racing Odds

It is hard to see past the 1/2 odds-on favourite CHAMP in this one* (odds recorded at 21:09 GMT on January 28th, 2021 at Coral).

He looks a class above the rest and put in a dominant performance in the Long Walk against a better field than what he faces up to on Saturday.

So Champ should go to the Cheltenham Festival in fine form.

The one most likely to challenge him is MCFABULOUS if he can push on, which he looks likely to do after a pleasing reappearance run.
