Clarence House Chase Odds & Tips: William Hill offer 11/8 on Politologue – 23rd January 2021

Politologue can take brilliant Tingle Creek form forward to claim the Clarence House Chase

Horse Racing Betting

The Clarence House Chase is the feature race of the day from Ascot on Saturday. This is a Grade 1 fixture which is open to 5-year-olds and above.

The current favourite in the fixture is Politologue, who was last year’s Champion Chase winner.

But there should be stiff challenges coming in from Defi Du Seuil and Waiting Patiently.

Last year’s winner of the Clarence House Chase was Defi Du Seuil from an 11/10 SP (B J Geraghty / P J Hobbs).

Clarence House Chase Odds

Politologue 6/4
Waiting Patiently 11/4
Defi De Seuil 4/1
Fanion D’estruval 17/2
First Flow 18/1
Duc Des Genievres 22/1
Bun Doran 66/1
Le Patriote 100/1

Politologue the 6/4 FAV in Clarence House Chase Odds

Heading up the field for the Clarence House Chase is POLITOLOGUE at 6/4* (betting odds recorded 18:51 GMT on January 22nd, 2021 at William Hill).

On his reappearance run, he posted a second victory at the Tingle Creek at Sandown in December. So that was another huge positive for him.

If he is anywhere near that kind of form, Politique could be tough to beat. Last year’s Champion Chase winner Politologue was dominant in the Tingle Creek.

We would expect Paul Nichols’ 10 year old to get out to the front and lead the way boldly. Harry Skelton isn’t in the saddle as Harry Cobden takes over for the weekend.

Can Défi Du Seuil turn the tables on Politologue

DEFI DU SEUIL is looking to land a defence of the Clarence House Chase. That performance 12 months ago really confirmed that he is a top-class chaser.

But in last year’s Champion Chase at Cheltenham, he came up a long way short against Politologue in what was a really disappointing effort.

There wasn’t a lot better from him on his reappearance run for this season either. Defi Du Seuil may have something to find.

Defi Du Seuil is a current 4/1 option in Clarence House Chase odds* (betting odds recorded 18:51 GMT on January 22nd, 2021 at William Hill).

But there should be obvious place claims on show for him in this one if he is near his best. Defi Du Seuil does look as if he needs a bounce-back effort here.

Waiting Patiently should have a say

There was a lot to like about the way that WAITING PATIENTLY ran the King George last month. That was his reappearance urn and he was powering on at the finish.

He had to settle for a second-place finish there to Frodon, but nonetheless, it was an excellent effort. Back in 2018, he scored a Grade 1 effort here at Ascot.

Waiting Patiently was also in the Tingle Creek in 2019 when he took an excellent third-place finish behind Defi Du Seuil. So he should be there or thereabouts after that reappearance in King George.

A good thing about Waiting Patiently is that he is nice and versatile in the distance, but this may be just a little shy of his optimum trip.

But he is being well-supported at 11/4* (betting odds recorded 18:51 GMT on January 22nd, 2021 at William Hill).

Fanion D’estruval can launch a bold bid

On his reappearance run this season, FANION D’ESTRUVAL claimed a nice second-place finish at Cheltenham. That put him in line for a good shot back at the same venue in the Peterborough Chase.

But Fanion D’estruval couldn’t complete that one. He was going very well though before taking a tumble at the last.

It has been three wins in six chase efforts from him and he made such an impressive British debut last winter.

Place claims are not unreasonable at all from 17/2* (betting odds recorded 18:51 GMT on January 22nd, 2021 at William Hill).

Can Duc Des Genievres make another step forward?

Duc Des Genievres won the Arkle back in 2019, the clear highlight of his career. He opened the new season with a good second place in a Cheltenham effort.

That was a Grade 2 contest and it was also his debut for Paul Nicholls. That was something of a big return to form from Duc Des Genievres.

He followed that up with a third place finish at Kempton afterwards in the Desert Orchase Chase. That was a 2m trip and he couldn’t quite find top gear in that one.

If he could come back a little bit sharpener for that then the 18/1 odds as an each way shot looks generous* (betting odds recorded 18:51 GMT on January 22nd, 2021 at William Hill).

The rest of the runners

FIRST FLOW is bang in form at the moment and secured a five-timer last time out. It has been six wins in eight starts from him after scoring at Wetherby last month. But this is a big step up in quality for him to deal with.

LE PATRIOTE has won two of his three starts this season. Those were novice chase wins though. In between that, he was tried up at Grade 2 and that showed him up a little bit. This is a tough company for him.

BUN DORAN scored a Grade 2 effort at Kempton last winter and signed off last season with a great third place in the Champion Chase. But he has shown nothing like that this season from two runs and may struggle.

Predictions & Tips for Clarence House Chase Racing Odds

If POLITOLOGUE is in the mood then he is the one to beat without question from 6/4* (betting odds recorded 18:51 GMT on January 22nd, 2021 at William Hill).

There should not be too much doubt about that, and having won the Tingle Creek in such a bold, domineering fashion last month, it’s hard to look past him.

We haven’t seen DEFI DU SEUIL in top form for a while now and so we are going to skip past him. WAITING PATIENTLY has a bit more appeal after a very strong effort in the King George in December.

He could just have the speed in him to make his presence strongly felt and goes from 11/4* (betting odds recorded 18:51 GMT on January 22nd, 2021 at William Hill).

As for the rest of them. The pick of the bunch is likely to be FANION D’ESTRUVAL who is a smart chaser and has shaped well in both efforts this season.
