This is a race solely for 3-year-old fillies and it is contested at around the mile mark.

The Coronation Stakes is such a good race and with the form to consider from the 1000 Guineas and French 1000 Guineas, this is usually stacked with talent.

Our betting experts dive through some history of the race, as well as look at the latest odds and contenders in Coronation Stakes tips 2022.

Coronation Stakes Stakes History

The Coronation Stakes has a rich history at Royal Ascot and it was inaugurated way back in 1840.

This race, which is only for 3-year-old fillies, commemorates the Coronation of Queen Victoria, which happened a couple of years before.

The Coronation Stakes was introduced at Group 2 when the new grading systems appeared in the early 70s.

It was moved to Group 1 in 1988.

Because of the timing and nature of the race, it’s common to see entries that have already had a run for the season at either the 1000 Guineas or the Irish 1000 Guineas.

Inspiral 15/8 FAV in Coronation Stakes Racing Odds

Heading up the market for this year’s Coronation Stakes renewal at Royal Ascot is INSPIRAL.

The daughter of Frankel is a quote of 15/8 to get the job done* (odds recorded at 20:45 GMT on June 15th, 2022 at Paddy Power).

It has been nothing but rapid progress by her so far, having won all four appearances.

She retains Frankie Dettori which has worked out well for her, as he was in attendance when Inspiral took the May Hill and Group 1 Fillies’ Mile.

This is her reappearance for the season. If she is sharp out of the gates then Inspiral is the one to beat. She looks like a top prospect.

With her having had to skip the 1000 Guineas, this is her chance to get her season going in big fashion.

PROSPEROUS VOYAGE

Coronation Stakes Betting Contenders

We have already looked at the favourite in Coronation Stakes betting and we look now at some of those who can challenge Inspiral.

This is an extremely high-quality renewal of this fillies contest so a lot is going on.

MANGOUSTINE landed the French 1000 Guineas and is on the radar for this contest at 7/1* (odds recorded at 20:45 GMT on June 15th, 2022 at Paddy Power).

The only blip in her five runs so far was a third on her reappearance.

But the French 1000 Guineas immediately followed that.

She claimed the win by a head over Cachet, showing a great attitude to just hang in there. There’s more to come and a lot of further improvement in her.

Having gone close at the French 1000 Guineas then, CACHET is also on the shortlist for consideration in the Coronation Stakes betting tips.

Her winning form saw her make all in landing the 1000 Guineas, beating the subsequent Oaks winner Tuesday. That’s a big form that she brings and is ready for another big run.

She had been seeking a hat trick this season when she went to Longchamp for the French 1000 Guineas. She was just touched off there.

Better will be expected of DISCOVERIES in this contest as well having had a reappearance effort under her belt.

That was a 7th place finish in the 1000 Guineas. She may have needed that run under the belt to get herself going this season and has claims.

The other that immediately stands out as a big contender in Coronation Stakes tips is PROSPEROUS VOYAGE.

She was second to Cachet in the 1000 Guineas on what was her first spin of this season.

To be fair Prosperous Voyage ran an absolute screamer at Newmarket as she tried to reel in Cachet and wasn’t far away from doing so.

Coronation Stakes Favourites – Royal Ascot Betting

In the last 10 renewals of the Coronation Stakes, there have been just three winning favourites.

Those were Alpha Centauri in 2018 Winter in 2017 and Sky Lantern back in 9/2F.

It has been a race where generally stronger horses towards the head of the market have prevailed.

The longest-priced winner in the last 10 renewals has been Watch Me who scored at 20/1.

Each of the last 20 winners of the Coronation Stakes had been within the top seven in the betting market at the off. So that’s the range to pull from.

Coronation Stakes Trends

We need to look at some of the trends for the Coronation Stakes tips on Friday at Royal Ascot.

Half of the last 20 renewals have been won by a British trainer, with six from Ireland and four from France rounding it out.

Age is not a factor in this as the race is only open to 3-year-old fillies.

But perhaps one of the key trends to look for is a winner.

Each of the last 20 renewals were won by a horse that had won a race within their last three starts.

Coronation Stakes Trends Royal Ascot

  • Each of the last 20 winners had previously won within their last three stars
  • At least 2 career wins had been earned by each of the last 20 winners
  • The last 20 winners had all won within their last three stars
  • Winners from each of the last 20 renewals came from the first seven in the betting market
  • The last win recorded was between 112-126lbs by each of the last 20 Coronation Stakes winners
  • All but one of the last 20 renewals had won at least at Group 3 before
  • 18 of the previous 20 winners had made at least four career starts

Coronation Stakes Trainer & Jockey Trends

Of the active jockeys that are booked for Friday’s run in the Coronation Cup, Ryan Moore is the only one to have delivered more than one victory.

Moore claimed wins in 2013 and 2017 and this year is on the back of Tenebrism for Aiden O’Brien.

The only other three jockeys in the 2022 renewal to have won the race before are Frankie Dettori, William Buick and Gerald Mosse.

As for the trainer trends, Aiden O’Brien is the leader of those with entries this year.

He has won three of the previous 20 editions. He is usually heavy-handed in this contest with a lot of entries but has only Tenebrism this year.

Jessica Harrington has seen home two winners in the spell, while the only other trainer with a winner in it before is Andrew Balding.

They have Discoveries and Sandrine, especially in the 2022 Coronation Stakes renewal.

Coronation Stakes Tips & Predictions Royal Ascot 2022

We have reached the Coronation Stakes tips for Royal Ascot 2022 as we try and break down this hot field.

As long as INSPIRAL is ready to roll then she is an obvious threat at 15/8* (odds recorded at 20:45 GMT on June 15th, 2022 at Paddy Power).

She is extremely high class and looked more and more impressive with each run. With her having beaten Prosperous Voyage the last twice, she has obvious claims.

6/1 shot CACHET has to get on the shortlist as well after landing the 1000 Guineas* (odds recorded at 20:45 GMT on June 15th, 2022 at Paddy Power).

She got the better of Prosperous Voyage in that one. There were a few of these further back as well.

That’s two good wins at Newmarket this season by her and she was close to overturning Mangoustine in the French 1000 Guineas last time out.

Even though we have mentioned her in a slightly negative frame, PROSPEROUS VOYAGE still gets on our shortlist in Coronation Stakes tips.

The way that she gallantly chased down Cachet in the 1000 Guineas (falling short) was specular and she’s not done improving yet.

Prosperous Voyage is a good 9/1 shout* (odds recorded at 20:45 GMT on June 15th, 2022 at Paddy Power).
