Our Criterion Stakes racing tips will take a look at each of the runners that are going off on this 7f contest.

It looks like being a competitive renewal, with the market leaders all having fought each other at Haydock last month.

Sunray Major 15/8 FAV in Criterion Stakes Racing Odds

SUNRAY MAJOR renews his rivalry with Laneqash and Pogo after meeting them in the John Of Gaunt Stakes four weeks ago.

That Haydock contest saw Sunray Major take a fourth-place finish. He was closer than the result suggested in the Group 3.

There was a slow start for Sunray Major and he was always struggling for position in the contest.

But he’s a smart horse and the two runs this season before the John Of Gaunt were at higher levels and he was not disgraced.

Connections now reach for the first-time cheekpieces in the hope that it will give him an edge on the weekend.

Sunray Major is the current 15/8 favourite in Criterion Stakes betting odds* (odds recorded at 23:37 GMT on June 24th, 2022 at Coral).

Laneqash could be the way to go

Last season LANEQASH was plying his trade up at Group 2 where connections really tried and tested him.

A win wasn’t forthcoming, but he ran with full credit for a fourth place finish in the Group 2 Joel Stakes on his final run of last season.

Laneqash is an excellent competitor and on his reappearance, took a runner-up in a Group 3 at Haydock in the John Of Gaunt.

He was only just touched off by Pogo in that one, Laneqash had Sunray Major behind him.

The key here is that Laneqash is 3lb better off against Pogo this time around.

Laneqash is a big threat here from a quote of 5/2* (odds recorded at 23:37 GMT on June 24th, 2022 at Coral).

Can Pogo follow up?

POGO looked as good as ever in taking the victory in the John Of Gaunt at Haydock four weeks ago.

He made all in the contest and held with enough to edge Laneqash.

The race did completely pan out in his favour in that one, which is something to take into consideration.

Pogo has taken a 3lb penalty for that victory and he has two big competitors that he faces once again.

On the evidence of that Haydock effort, Pogo may need the luck to get the run of things again.

That’s reflected in the 6/1 quote on Pogo in the Criterion Stakes odds* (odds recorded at 23:37 GMT on June 24th, 2022 at Coral).

Ever Given looks to add to tally

EVER GIVEN had a very good juvenile campaign and has looked highly progressive this season as a 3-year-old.

He warrants some respect here after taking a victory at Epsom on his latest.

That was in a Listed race so faces a stiffer test here.

But it’s been two wins from three this season. Ever Given is certainly heading in the right direction and is well worth a place at this grade.

There’s a quote of 8/1 on the win for Ever Given in Criterion Stakes odds* (odds recorded at 23:37 GMT on June 24th, 2022 at Coral).

The rest of the runners Criterion Stakes

ART DU VAL was a runner-up at York a couple of weeks ago in a listed race. He has some decent form this season, but this is a much bigger assignment.

BOUNCE THE BLUES is a decent consistent one and took a credible second at Haydock on her reappearance. She was never going to win that one the way the race shook out, and she’ll need more here.

BASS PLAYER is unexposed as this will be just his third racetrack appearance. But he did look very good in scoring on his debut. But he was then well beaten by Ever Given on a follow-up at Epsom three weeks ago.

Predictions & Tips for Criterion Stakes Racing Tips

LANEQASH is top of our Criterion Stakes racing tips at 5/2* (odds recorded at 23:37 GMT on June 24th, 2022 at Coral).

He is a good, smart one and put in very credible runs last season in a higher grade, and he should be better for his reappearance.

Although the win evaded SUNRAY MAJOR in the John Of Gaunt, he did shape well after being hampered by a poor start.

He should be right there from 15/8* (odds recorded at 23:37 GMT on June 24th, 2022 at Coral).

EVER GIVEN is just worth a look at this higher level to bring some place claims from 8/1* (odds recorded at 23:37 GMT on June 24th, 2022 at Coral).

There’s been plenty of encouraging signs and if he can build on a listed Epsom win last time out, there could be something there for him.
