Galatasaray News and Form – Can Turkish side beat Real Madrid?

So Galatasaray and Real Madrid are in the same position having taken just one point from their opening two games. The point that each took was from a draw against Club Brugges. The loss that Galatasaray have suffered in the group happened against PSG. The Turkish side are now on a four-match losing streak against Spanish opposition. Can they deliver a huge upset over Los Blancos?

Problematically Galatasaray have yet to score in this season’s Champions League. They have also failed to win any of their last six European fixtures (D3 L3) in last season’s campaign they picked up a W1 D1 L4 record in the group stage and then on their drop down to the Europa League, lost immediately against Benfica in their tie.

It has been just one win for Galatasaray in their last 17 European games (D6 L10). That’s an awful record. They have only taken two wins in their last 14 home games in European action as well, drawing six of those. This is the Turkish side’s first meeting with Spanish opposition since 2015 when they lost twice against Atletico Madrid. Gala have one victory in their last 17 played against Spanish teams (D4 L12) that one win was against Real Madrid back in 2013.

Real Madrid suffered a 3-0 loss at PSG on matchday one, but they were expected to shake that off, as they hosted Club Brugges in their second game. It didn’t quite pan out for Real Madrid as they had to fight back from 2-0 at the Bernabeu to rescue a point. So that is far from the ideal start that they had expected to have. Big questions are being asked of them. An understrength Real Madrid side had a shock loss at Mallorca on the weekend in La Liga.

Gareth Bale, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Eden Hazard were all missing from the line-up, the first three because of injury problems. Real Madrid have lost three of their last five Champions League games. They have conceded at least three goals in each of those defeats as well. In total, Los Blancos have conceded 13 goals in their last five Champions League fixtures. They won their section last season in the group stage but are going to struggle to pull that off this time around.

With their round of 16 exit last season against Ajax, that was the first time since 2009/10 that Madrid hadn’t made at least the semi-finals. Real Madrid took a win in three of their four away games last season in Europe, and have a W14 D4 L5 record in their last 23 on the road in the competition. Even though their form isn’t there, it would be a huge shock if they didn’t leave Turkey with three points.
