Wadham’s Miss in red-hot form
Miss Heritage has more than justified her position near the handicap with a couple of excellent runs at Fakenham, including on her handicap debut when she was third racing off the same mark.
She led until the home turn that day before staying on again in the closing stages and it seems that the Flat-bred daughter of Pour Moi is suited by sharp tracks.
Itsonlyrocknroll hoping to hit the right note
Chris Gordon was disappointed in Itsonlyrocknroll‘s application in the closing stages at Fontwell as he’d travelled strongly for much of the race.
A winner at Wincanton last month following a wind operation, the trainer had hoped his gelding had turned a corner but it’s now back to the drawing board for the eight-year-old, who is one of the senior runners in this race and available at 7/1.
Family honour at stake for top weight
The Newest One (a best 5/1) runs in the colours made famous by his half-brother The New One, a Grade 1 winner at the Cheltenham Festival who won 20 of his 40 career starts.
There is nothing that so far suggests that the Oscar gelding will turn out to be anywhere near as good but he is making his handicap debut after just three runs over hurdles in which he’s run up to a decent level of form without making any headlines.
Sam Twiston Davies keeps the partnership intact which hints that there is considerable scope for improvement, though Huntingdon may not be the ideal track.
Bardd looks one to avoid
Though a bumper and Flat winner for Nicky Henderson, Bardd (a general 8/1) has run 18 times over hurdles and never won.
He had a big chance at Warwick last month but looked reluctant in the closing stages and the handicapper has thought it fit to raise him 3lb. He is probably one to swerve now and in the future.
Enlighten not without hope
Having been much too keen inn his first two runs over timber, Enlighten was much more settled last time at Haydock.
Mick Easterby would not be sending him to Huntingdon to make his handicap debut if he didn’t think he had a chance of returning with some prize money and he did look useful when winning a Kelso bumper a year ago. The 14/1 could reward each-way interest.
