Kempton Monday 20:00: Betfred offer 9/4 racing odds on Prompting – 17th February 2020

Horse Racing Betting

The 20:00 from Kempton on Monday is the penultimate race of the day there. It features an excitingly big field as well with 13 runners going to the start. This is only a 1m handicap which is at class 5, so it is going to be a thrilling burst of action.

Prompting heads the market for the race, but there is plenty in the field behind him.

Can Prompting hold off the field?

9/4 favourite for the race then is Prompting* (betting odds taken from Betfred on February 16th 2020 at 23:56). He was a beaten favourite last time out. That was a 1m trip at Lingfield where he had to settle for a third of seven from having started as the 7/4 favourite.

Prompting has won before at 7f on the all-weather. The slip up at Lingfield happened straight after the four-year-old had won a Wolverhampton trip at 7f. He has gone once before at Kempton, taking a third-place finish from 12/1 back in October last year.

Agent Of Fortune in form

Agent Of Fortune certainly carries some claims at 7/2* (betting odds taken from Betfred on February 16th 2020 at 23:56). She is a previous distance winner and has come into some superb form. She delivered a victory on her last run which was at Lingfield in January.

That was her third win of the season. She has been running very well with a 1211 in her last four runs and the five-year-old has big claims to keep up that form. Her distance win was back at the end of January at Chelmsford in this class.

Qatar Queen

Filly Qatar Queen has found a nice bit of consistency and she does look as if she has a little bit more in her. She was a beaten favourite in her last run which was last month at course and distance.

But that wasn’t a bad effort at all from the four-year-old who was second by only half a length in the contest. That is three second places in her last four runs. She’s knocking on the door.

Shaffire and Dawry with form claims

Four-year-old Shaffire has taken back to back second-place finishes in her last two trips. The most recent of those was in a 1m tip at Lingfield earlier in February. That was in a big field of 11 so wasn’t troubled by the size of the field around her.

Dawry is also in the same boat, having taken back to back second-place finishes too. That has been improving form from the gelding. He was last out at Newcastle in December last year in a 1m trip and took second of seven in the race. Dawry goes as a longer 8/1 option to the 9/2 of Shaffire* (betting odds taken from Betfred on February 16th 2020 at 23:56).

C&D Winners To Note

There are four runners in the field who have won at course and distance before. Starting with Makambe, he won four times at this distance. He was a fourth of five at Southwell in his last run at the 1m trip last month. His C&D win happened in September last year.

Artois is another C&D winner and he is lacking form. He was out at Southwell too in December and finished dead last of nine over a 1m trip. His C&D was in September 2018 and hasn’t won a race since then.

Secretario hasn’t been in action since November 2018, so is coming back from a long break. His course and distance win was in November 2017 and is going to be an unknown quantity. Lee Roy’s win at C&D was more recent, happening in March last year. But a 12th of 15 and a last  place of 10 is all that he’s managed since.

Of the course and distance winners, Takeonefortheteam has the most appeal at 10/1* (betting odds taken from Betfred on February 16th 2020 at 23:56). He recently had a trip to Chelmsford in early February and was the 4th of 12. He has at-least placed in four of his last five runs as well, including his 1m success at Kempton in October 2019.

Predictions & Tips

Who doesn’t like a big competitive field? There is certainly one here. Prompting is a fine proposition, despite not delivering last time out. This will be just his second handicap.

Agent Of Fortune jumps off the page because of form but she is taking on some extra weight here which could hold her back.

It is Qatar Queen, a beaten favourite past time out at C&D that has a little more appeal. She’s a better weight and has secured consistency in her running so is nicely poised as a 7/2 threat* (betting odds taken from Betfred on February 16th 2020 at 23:56).

The longer priced pick for the race is Takeonefortheteam, a previous course and distance winner who had a good trip in preparation for this.
