London 8/1 to host 2020 F1 British Grand Prix

Street race in the capital to come?

It was announced this week that Silverstone’s contract with F1 will be up, as the track triggered a break clause in their agreement. So following the 2019 British Grand Prix, there will no further F1 action at the famous old course. That doesn’t mean that there won’t be a Grand Prix coming to Britain though as this is a great time for a different track to step up to the plate and play host.

Paddy Power have an option of 8/1 on there being a London street race as the next British Grand Prix to follow on from Silverstone, with Brands Hatch at 9/1 and the Aintree Motor Racing Circuit at 16/1 to play host.

What has thrown London into the mix, and that would be a thrilling spectacle were it to happen, is that motor racing was legalised back in April on closed public roads, so that means the capital could legally play hosts to the mega-event of hosting an F1 Grand Prix in a Monaco-like affair.

However, that would probably cause a lot more security headaches than having things contained at a specialised race track. But still, at the head of the market to host the 2020 British Grand Prix is yes, Silverstone. It is believed that the course will come out and negotiate a new deal to get F1 back there.

It is, after all, their most lucrative payday of the year and it would be a devastating loss to let it go.

A spokesman for Paddy Power said: “Strap yourselves in, folks – this one could go on and on. A bit like the race itself.

“Many in F1 expect Silverstone to return to the negotiating table, but a London street race will be in pole position otherwise.”

WHERE WILL THE 2020 BRITISH GRAND PRIX BE HELD?

1/7 Silverstone
8/1 London street race
9/1 Brands Hatch
16/1 Aintree Motor Racing Circuit
