It is a minimum 5f trip that we are looking at here for the World Trophy Stakes at Newbury. EQUILATERLAL is the current 2/1 market leader for it* (betting odds taken from Betway at 23:12 GMT on Friday, 18th September 2020).

The highlight of his season was a second place finish to Battaash in the King’s Stand at Ascot.

But that kind of level has not been there from him since. He was only just out in action last weekend at the Curragh, finishing down the field in the Flying Five.

He is a good horse, but EQUILATERAL has proven that he generally comes on stronger when refreshed. Still, he’s a class act and works well with the in-form Hollie Doyle. He’s the class act of the field,

LAZULI looks to be a contender here for trainer Charlie Appleby. He claimed a win at Sandown in a Listed event back in June. The follow up form has been steady and yet unspectacular in his two efforts since then. He’s not to be dismissed if he can get himself back up to form.

WISE WORDS was in great form during 2019 as she landed three wins. She recently came back into action after a year away with a good run at Doncaster.

TENBURY WELLS is the 3/1 favourite for this handicap contest* (betting odds taken from Betway at 23:12 GMT on Friday, 18th September 2020). He has been good, strong, consistent from him lately with two wins in his last three efforts.

The second of those two wins was on his handicap debut. That happened at Ascot at this distance. On his follow up to that he rattled the crossbar at Sandown, only missing out by a short-head. Tenbury Wells should be a big player in this competitive handicap and just gets the nod from us.

ILARAAB is another that is in great form at the moment. He recently completed a hat-trick by scoring on his handicap debut at Beverley in August.

He has to withstand a 6lb rise because of the rapid progression that he has produced. But there is a big chance that he is going to be close to a four-timer on Saturday.

MAYDANNY also piques some interest in his contest as he has won a couple of times this season. The big one of the wins that he has taken was at Glorious Goodwood in July. He wasn’t excusable on his last trip, a York effort, but the potential is there and he is on a workable mark.

Race Favourite

It is a small field here and the favourite for the Legacy Cup is EXTRA ELUSIVE at 17/10* (betting odds taken from Betway at 23:12 GMT on Friday, 18th September 2020). He will be stepping out at Newbury on Saturday looking to secure a hattrick.

It has been a Group 3 double that he has scored as well, those coming at Haydock and Windsor. Those were in the Rose of Lancaster and Winter Hill Stakes respectively. Extra Elusive is also a former course winner. There’s big claims there from him and he will be our pick.

ELARQAM has gone off the boil just a little bit in his last two efforts. He looked set for a big season after a reappearance that saw him take second at Haydock. That was in the Brigadier Gerard Stakes. But he has really been labouring since then, but has to be respected from his mark and in coming down in grade.

DESERT ENCOUNTER took a good third on his last trip, a run at Windsor in a Listed race. He didn’t find himself in a good place in that one. He is not the biggest threat in terms of current form, but on his day he is more than capable still.

GIFTS OF GOLD can’t be underestimated either. He scored a win on his last trip, which was at Chelmsford in August. He had plenty to spare in that one and that was a big progressive burst of form from him.

It is FIVETHOUSANDTOONE who is the favourite for this fixture* (betting odds taken from Betway at 23:12 GMT on Friday, 18th September 2020).

This is his third racetrack appearance, but despite looking rough around the edges on his debut, he took a second place finish.

That was to Bahrain Pride who has since won in Listed company. He then went and scored a win on his follow up, simply crushing the field at Newcastle just over a couple of weeks ago.

RHYTHM MASTER will be our pick for this contest hower instead at 5/2* (betting odds taken from Betway at 23:12 GMT on Friday, 18th September 2020).

He scored a very impressive debut win before being bumped right up to Group 1. Rhythm Master Put in a super run to get third place in the Prix Morny in August in that, and so looks to be the one to beat for us.

We also have to have a look at BAHRAIN PRIDE as a key player. He scored that debut win by getting the better of Fivethousandtoone. He then followed it up with a victory in a Listed run at Ripon, handling himself really well at that level. It’s likely that he will mix up there in the push for a place.

Race Favourite

The race favourite is DIOCLES OF ROME at 9/2* (betting odds taken from Betway at 23:12 GMT on Friday, 18th September 2020). He looks at an ideal position in the handicapping at the moment to push for a win in this one.

It has been a fairly light season from him, but there is progress to still come back from him. He produced an excellent third place finish at Doncaster a week ago. He’s at the same mark there and so should have some decent claims.

MARSHAL DAN is likely to be in the picture because he is having a very good season. It has been a couple of wins from his four trips so far.

The best of those was at Haydock just over a week ago when he scored from 6/1 in a 7f handicap.

He is a previous course and distance winner too, so he goes as our pick from 5/1* (betting odds taken from Betway at 23:12 GMT on Friday, 18th September 2020).

LA MAQUINA now looks like he means business after putting a win on the board on his last effort. That came 18 days ago at Kempton on a 7f trip. He takes on a 4lb rise, but he is rapidly heading in the right direction and needs to be respected.

There’s one more selection for things here and that will be KARIBANA. The colt won at course and distance and then at Newmarket this season.

He wasn’t quite at the same level on his last run at Newmarket a month ago. So while he needs to get back to top form, he piques interest.
