Trueshan does look to be going back in action on a tough mark, which means that the 5-year-old is going to have to produce a new best.

That was on a shorter trip, so the step up in distance is probably going to help her out further and Dubious Affair looks to have plenty more in hand.

Galata Bridge to defy long odds?

He is a good front runner and will get his head down and scrap it out. Galata Bridge was sixth at Royal Ascot 11 days ago.

A positive, aggressive run from him could pay off on the Tapeta on Saturday. It has been three wins from three on the surface, so he’s happy here.

Galata Bridge was thriving last season and can run off a 3lb lower mark for this contest. He’s a course winner as well and coming up on the trip, there are interesting place claims from him.

Can Australia get in the picture?

We don’t think that AUSTRALIS is no forlorn hope in this contest. He has good experience of the Northumberland Plate.

Australis was second in last year’s renewal of this race and is far more at home on the all-weather than on the turf.

That was proven on his last couple of efforts, which were on the turf and he never got himself in the frame.

Roger Varian’s 5 year old may need a career-best and one or two to falter. But he has proven form here at Newcastle that piques interest.

Just Hubert an outsider with a shot?

Along with AUSTRALIS, there is good outsider interest in JUST HUBERT who is a 20/1 shot* (odds recorded at 21:09 GMT on June 25th, 2021 at Coral).

He was last seen at Royal Ascot on a 2m 4f trip and that was asking a lot of him on the day. Just Hubert finished 11th. But he should be better for the experience.

He has won five-time between 1m 2f to 2m 5f and we think that the conditions at Royal Ascot were just far too quick for him. This switch to all-weather could be a great move.

Others to note

MILDENBERGER appeared with four stablemates under Mark Johnston and opened the season with a reappearance win at Wolverhampton.

He returned from a Saudi Arabia handicap 126 days ago. There’s no reason why he can’t show.

THEMAXWECAN can be a frustrating one to follow. He was brilliant on a reappearance score at Musselburgh.

But his recent run in a Royal Ascot handicap was a bit of a shocker. He takes on the Tapeta for the first time.

ALRIGHT SUNSHINE is going to be fine for this trip. He took full advantage of a reduced mark to score at Hamilton 43 days ago. He comes up 2lb though and this is a much stronger race.

GRANDMASTER FLASH couldn’t complete a hattrick last time. He went well for a long way before sliding back 3f out. But the form was still there and is an interesting player on a 3f drop in distance.
