The Cleeve Hurdle, a big trial for the Stayers Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival 2020, went down on Saturday at the course. It was another commanding performance from Paisley Park in it. He never really had to get out of second gear in the race to collect the win. Trainer Emma Lavelle now sends him to the Stayers Hurdle where he is the odds-on favourite.

Paisley Park is in great shape
It was such a clean jumping performance from Paisley Park once again. So he is now going to be one of the Festival bankers for punters. His win at Cheltenham on the weekend in the Cleeve Hurdle was secured by one and a quarter lengths over Summerville Boy. It was impressively, Paisley Park’s seventh win in a row.
At last year’s Cheltenham Festival, Paisley Park produced a win in the Stayers Hurdle, a 3m trip, by almost three lengths over Sam Spinner. He has won his last three trips at Prestbury Park now. It is hard to see how he is going to be knocked off his perch as he tries to defend in March.
Favourite pulled into odd-on for Festival
Some bookmakers left him out at even money on the weekend like Betfair did* (betting odds taken from Betfair on January 26th, 2020 at 20:07). Others like Bet365 and Ladbrokes moved into odds-on prices.
Summerville Boy is going to head to the Stayers Hurdle too. He had a good performance on the weekend to take the second place. His connections were pretty happy with him there. He was out at 10/1 with Betfair on Sunday. But Bet365 had chopped him into a 7/1 quote* (betting odds taken from Betfair on January 26th, 2020 at 20:07).
Benie Des Dieux is the current second favourite in the market. The Willie Mullins-trained 9-year-old delivered a win on Friday at Gowran over Penhill. That was his third straight win. He will be looking for a little bit of redemption at the course after failing to defend is OLBG Mares’ Hurdle title twelve months ago.
