Platinum Jubilee Stakes Stakes History

The race has gone through some name changes throughout its long history. Originally it was the All-Aged Stakes and it was inaugurated in 1926.

For the early editions when the current grading system was introduced in the early 70s, it was a Group 3 contest.

That’s when it was known as the Cork and Orrery Stakes

It was promoted up to Group 2 in 1998 and in 2022 it was renamed the Golden Jubilee Stakes when it also gained Group 1 status.

The race was again renamed when in 2012 the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II came along.

This year has seen it change to the Platinum Jubilee.

In 2005 the Platinum Jubilee was incorporated into the Global Sprint Challenge.

A change to the setup of the race in 2015 happened when it changed to 4-year-olds and up, having previously been open to 3-year-olds too.

That happened because the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup was introduced to the Royal Festival that year and that is exclusively for 3-year-olds only.

Home Affairs 15/8 FAV in Platinum Jubilee Stakes Racing Odds

Lining up at the top of the market for Platinum Jubilee Stakes tips is HOME AFFAIRS at 15/8* (odds recorded at 18:54 GMT on March 14th, 2022 at Paddy Power).

The Australian sprinter is a good one and has racked up two Group 1 wins in his career so far.

In February he claimed the win at Flemington for the latest of those victories and it was against Nature Strip, who is his stablemate.

Given that Nature Strip just dominated the King’s Stand at Royal Ascot this week, the form reads well for Home Affairs.

His latest effort didn’t pan out as he found himself in an unfavourable position in a handicap. But this is well within his range.

The tongue strap goes on for the first time and Home Affairs looks ready for another of his big runs.

Platinum Jubilee Stakes Betting Contenders

We have had a look at the favourite for Platinum Jubilee Stakes betting and now we shift focus to some challengers.

This is a good field, featuring a good crop of evenly-matched players that could easily get in the frame.

SACRED may find himself involved, and the more that the ground firms up, the better her chances are going to be.

She arrived at Royal Ascot after taking a good win in the Hungerford.

It has been two wins in her last three runs and is 11/1 to take this* (odds recorded at 18:54 GMT on March 14th, 2022 at Paddy Power).

Sacred does have a big absence of 308 days to overcome, but she’s lightly raced and very interesting.

Another to watch is CREATIVE FORCE who generally saves his best for Ascot.

Creative Force is a 10/1 contender* (odds recorded at 18:54 GMT on March 14th, 2022 at Paddy Power).

A year ago he collected a win in the Jersey and landed a course and distance success on Champions Day.

His latest effort which was at Meydan was just a poor run, but back on familiar ground, Charlie Appleby has a good challenger here.

More contenders to consider

CAMPANELLE is also one to consider for the shorts although she looks as if she needs a big chunk of importance for win purposes.

However, she has won both previous efforts at Ascot, taking the Queen Mary in 2020 and then the Commonwealth Cup last year.

A score at Keeneland 9 weeks ago saw Campanelle open the new campaign on song.

Entering with a very good course and distance record is GLEN SHIEL who could work his way into the reckoning.

Included in his course and distance form was a 2020 Champions Sprint victory.

Last year Glen Shiel rattled the crossbar in this race, so knows what it is all about.

Glen Shield didn’t appear to be on top of his game at the Curragh last time out, but rates as a danger.

So too does MINZAAL who gets the cheek pieces added for the first time.

He is a solid sprinter although he has been lightly worked since winning the 2020 Gimcrack.

Back in October on Champions Day Minzaal finished third at course and distance behind Creative Force and looked in good shape on his recent appearance.

Minzaal’s a longer option at 18/1 in Royal Ascot odds* (odds recorded at 18:54 GMT on March 14th, 2022 at Paddy Power).

One final name that we are going to throw out there is A CASE OF YOU who has won two of four runs this year.

One of those was at the top level in Dubai back in March when he had the beating of Happy Romance.

He was last seen in a Group 2 at the Curragh on his latest, which wasn’t the greatest of efforts.

A Case Of You ran in last year’s Commonwealth Cup but has looked a much-improved model this year.

Platinum Jubilee Stakes Favourites – Royal Ascot Betting

Last year’s favourite was Dream Of Dreams and he got his nose in front in the race, making it two winning favourites in the last three renewals of the Platinum Jubilee Stakes.

Across the last ten editions of the Platinum Jubilee Stakes, there have been four winning favourites. Of those, only Black Caviar in 2012 was odds-on.

It is important to dig further into the trends for the race in order to break down the field a little bit further.

Platinum Jubilee Stakes Trends

Kicking off with a look at the Platinum Jubilee Stakes trends we see that 13 of the last 20 renewals have been won by a British trainer. In that spell, there were 3 from Ireland, 2 from Australia and one each from the USA and Hong Kong.

So there’s the trend with that, and now onto the age. All but two of the last 10 renewals have been won by either a 4 or a 5-year-old. So that seems to be the perferred range.

But things have been shaken up in that regard in the last four editions. We have seen a 3-year-old and a 7-year-old land the win get home recently.

Dream Of Dreams was the 7-year-old, getting the score last year in the Platinum Jubilee.

Platinum Jubilee Stakes Trends Royal Ascot

  • There hasn’t been a winner at bigger than 33/1 in the last 20 renewals
  • None of the last 20 winners were in a field of 7 or 8 last time out
  • Each of the 20 renewals were won by a horse that had won within thor last six starts
  • A win at least at Listed level had been earned by each of the last 20 winners
  • All but one of the last 20 winners had previously contested a Group 1
  • All but one of the last 20 winners had not gone further than 6f on their last win
  • The last win of 19 of the last 20 winners had been in Class 1
  • Each of the last 20 winners had made a debut in England or Australia

Platinum Jubilee Stakes Trainer & Jockey Trends

We next expand this Platinum Jubilee Stakes tips preview with a look at some of the trainer trends.

No trainer who has an entry into this year’s renewal has previously won the race on more than one occasion.

But we do have five previous winning trainers back for another crack at the race.

Those are Kevin Ryan, Clive Cox, Henry Candy, Wesley A Ward and Charlie Appleby.

Out of those, the one with the best strike race is Appleby, who has won from just three entered in the contest.

There is a leading jockey to consider for Platinum Jubilee tips and that is Ryan Moore. He is a three-time winner of the contest.

Moore is the only jockey in this year’s race with more than one previous win in it.

Ryan Moore is booked for Charlie Hills’s Garrus so doesn’t pair up with a previous winning jockey.

Frankie Dettori, Adam Kirby and James Doyle are the only previous winning jockeys back in this year’s field.

A pairing of winning jockey/winning trainer is Adam Kirby on Clive Cox’s Diligent Harry.

Diligent Harry is a long 40/1 option* (odds recorded at 18:54 GMT on March 14th, 2022 at Paddy Power).

Platinum Jubilee Stakes Tips & Predictions Royal Ascot 2022

We have reached the Platinum Jubilee Stakes tips and we are starting at the top with HOME AFFAIRS.

Trainer Chris Waller had a big score with Nature Strip earlier this week and could collect another here.

Home Affairs is a high-class sprinter with Group 1 form behind him. He should be right there and warrants a place on the shortlist at 15/8* (odds recorded at 18:54 GMT on March 14th, 2022 at Paddy Power).

Our second selection for Platinum Jubilee Stakes tips is MINZAAL because he should be sharper for having had his reappearance run.

That was a good run after a long break with a third behind Highfield Princess at York so from 18/1 is an interesting each-way selection* (odds recorded at 18:54 GMT on March 14th, 2022 at Paddy Power).

The final one to consider is back from closer to the head of the market and that is SACRED at 10/1* (odds recorded at 18:54 GMT on March 14th, 2022 at Paddy Power).

The conditions do look as if they are going to give her a big chance in this one after a long break. She is a definite threat if tuned up.
