Royal Ascot 16:40 Racing Odds and Tips June 20 – Visir looking Grand in Royal Ascot finale

The Grand Visir set to rule in Queen Alexandra Stakes

Horse Racing Betting

The Queen Alexandra Stakes is the traditional ‘getting-out’ race for punters at Royal Ascot but it’s not exactly a grand finale and the quality has been lessened this year by the absence of runners from the top NH yards in Ireland.
There is the usual mix of jumpers, plodders and proven stayers tackling the marathon distance of the longest race at Royal Ascot and also on the Flat calendar as a whole.

Queen Alexandra Stakes History

First run in 1864 as the Alexandra Plate, it was later renamed after the wife of King Edward VII.
Though its distance was reduced by a few yards in 2005, it is still a severe test of stamina especially when the ground is riding soft.

Queen Alexandra Stakes Predictions

Mekong was beaten a long way when fifth in Thursday’s Gold Cup but has won twice on heavy going and Jamie Osborne’s runner must have a decent chance of an immediate consolation if handling the quick turnaround, though is only a best 11/4 with Betvictor.
Who Dares Wins has never won on going this soft but Alan King won the Ascot Stakes earlier this week with another of his versatile stayers and he does have a Northumberland Plate victory on his CV and was also second in last year’s Chester Cup on soft ground. He is a best 3/1 with Bet365 and will have plenty of followers.
Fun Mac was almost three lengths behind Who Dares Wins at Chester last year and is 7lb worse off so looks to have a lot on his plate. He is a general 12/1 but is a thorough stayer, though was only fourth in last year’s Ascot Stakes behind THE GRAND VISIR.
Ian Williams’ six-year-old is now 9lb better off so it is probably worth taking a chance on his fitness having a first run since October with a general 7/2 available
Nate The Great is only a four-year-old so the stats are against him but he ran a nice race on Newmarket on his reappearance and was placed in a Group 3 last summer so should be thereabouts at 7/1 with Coral if he stays.
