The Prince Of Wales’s Stakes is one of the high points of Royal Ascot.
The 1m2f Group 1 contest never attracts a big field and only seven go to post this year but there is quality in abundance in a race which features three Group 1 winners and three horses that have already visited the winners’ enclosure this year.

Prince Of Wales’s Stakes History
The Prince of Wales’s Stakes is traditionally the third middle-distance race in the QIPCO British Champions Series, following the Investec Coronation Cup and Investec Derby. The Derby has yet to be run this year, of course.
First run in 1862, the race was halted at the start of World War II and didn’t reappear at Royal ascot until 1968, with the investiture of the current Prince Of Wales. In 2000, the race achieved Group 1 status but was, at the same time, closed the three-year-olds who had previously been eligible to run.
Saeed bin Suroor and Sir Michael Stoute have both trained the winner of four occasions.

Prince Of Wales’s Stakes Conclusions
JAPAN is a hot favourite at a best Evens with Betway but the logical selection.
Third in last year’s Investec Derby, he won the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot later.
Group 1 success followed in the Grand Prix de Paris and the Juddmonte International at York but a fourth in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
Those are high-class pieces of form and, though beaten in the Dante on his reappearance last year, Aidan O’Brien has had an extra month to get him ready this time.
The ground has turned against Addeybb (a general 10/1), who has been sparkling form in Australia this year but good going suits Barney Roy (6/1 with Ladbrokes), who has been in sparkling form in Dubai and does stay this trip, though has never won beyond 1m1f.
Headman (a general 5/1) progressed from handicaps to win Group 2 races at Saint-Cloud and Deauville last year but was only fifth on his final start in the Irish Champion Stakes and is probably just a step short of the very best.
