Eceparti and Instant Replay

The 11/4 joint-favourites are Eceparti and Instant Replay* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 23:55 GMT on February 29th, 2020). Eceparti claimed a second-place finish in a field of nine at Fakenham on his last trip.

He was only beaten by a head by Cap Du Nord in that fixture which was at 2m 5f in January. Eceparti has won a couple of times this season at Wetherby and Chepstow.

Instant Replay collected a win on his last trip beating Flowery, who is also entered for this race, by a length. That was at Sedgefield in January at 2m 3f and he had been the 6/4 favourite for the race.

The 8-year-old has won at course and distance before and that happened back in February 2019. In total, he has collected four chase successes between 2m 3f and 2m 5f.

Flowery and The Paddy Pie

Tracking behind the leaders at around the 4/1 mark are Flowery and The Paddy Pie* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 23:55 GMT on February 29th, 2020).

Flowery has been beaten this year by Instant Replay which of course is a notable thing. He has won a couple of chases up to a 2m 5f distance. There was a second-place for him over the hurdles last time out at Uttoxeter in January.

The Paddy Pie was a faller on his last trip. He was taking on a 2m 3f chase at Wetherby in January and took the tumble. Before that, he had taken third place at Sedgefield at 2m 3f and he does seem to like the track. He won twice in early 2019, the most recent being a Haydock success in mid-February.

Kings Odyssey

The Evan Wiliams-trained Kings Odyssey is at the 8/1 price for the contest* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 23:55 GMT on February 29th, 2020). He was fourth of nine on his last trip at Wetherby last month.

The 11-year-old needed that run after pulling up in a bigger 3m trip at Sandown at the start of the year. He claimed a class 2 win at Warwick in November last year so he can handle the trip, but it will all be down to his jumping on the day.

River Frost

There may be some outside e/w appeal in former distance winner River Frost who is 12/1* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 23:55 GMT on February 29th, 2020). He was fourth of six at Kelso in January at the 2m 5f distance. It was a couple of decent trips that he had in January without looking like winning either of the contests. The distance win that he collected was at Kempton in February 2017.

Rest of the runners

Scoop The Pot was 5th of 10 in his last run which was a Newcastle chase at 2m 7f. He was a massive 50/1 quote for that race and there hasn’t been the winning touch there for him for some while. The 10-year-old has won a couple of chases up to 3m 2f.

Bollin Ace was third at 25/1 in a Wetherby Chase last month. He hasn’t won for over two years. That run at the start of February was his first time out since April 2018. It wasn’t the worst of runs at class 2 but is an unknown quantity.

Charmix was fourth at a Uttoxeter Chase in January at 2m 4f. It was over three years ago that Charmix last produced a race win. The 10-year-old has taken two thirds and that fourth-place finish this season.

Predictions & Tips

Instant Replay has won four times at Sedgefield before and may find enough over a slightly longer trip to pull off his fifth at the course. Just because of his course history he has to be fancied to come out on top of this class 2 contest.

After a long lay off, the return of Bollin Ace didn’t go bad and he could pique some reasonable outside interest. Flowery is a consistent runner and like Instant Replay likes a run out at Sedgefield.
