Will Buddies be another for Moreira
Joao Moreira rode five winners at Sha Tin on Sunday and his battle with reigning champion Zac Purton to be top rider at the track is helping light up the gloom.
His mount Buddies has thrived since making his Hong Kong debut just over a year ago.
He has already recorded three wins on Dirt and produced a career best on Turf last time behind the smart Seattle Choice.
Only raised 2lb, he has an excellent draw today and looks to have plenty in his favour for another victory at 11/4.
Kings Shield (a best 7/1) was fifth behind stablemate Without Parole in the 2018 St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot and hammered Buddies on Dirt at Sha Tin last June.
He’d have every chance on that form with has not been favoured by the draw today and Zac Purton instead rides top weight GLORIOUS ARTIST.
The latter has been struggling for form on Turf but reverts to Dirt after three months away. On his last appearance on the surface, he beat Buddies and Raging Blitzkrieg with a bit in hand and is better off at the weights with both of that pair so looks worth a bet at 5/1 with Betvictor.
Bear Slam let supporters down last time and so did Red Desert but Dances With Dragon won on Turf at Happy Valley in February, though Moreira prefers Buddies to him and Bear Slam.
