Maylandsea 3/1 FAV in St Hugh’s Stakes Racing Odds

Running as the current 3/1 favourite in St Hugh’s Stakes odds is MAYLANDSEA* (odds recorded at 18:04 GMT on August 11th, 2022 at BetVictor).

She got off the mark at the first time of asking, landing a win at Nottingham on her debut.

Her follow-up was even better as she found only one too good for her in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot.

Maylandsea does have claims. She beat a handful of these rivals at the Royal Festival in the Queen Mary.

For her third appearance, Maylandsea was sent to Newmarket and pushed up to 6f for the first time. That race didn’t work out for her.

So a small revival is needed after simply pulling too hard in the contest.

Maylandsea is back to 5f for last year’s winning yard and rates as a danger.

Katey Kontent to get in the ix

This is a competitive renewal of the St Hugh’s Stakes at Newbury. Another likely contender is KATEY KONTENT.

She picked up back-to-back wins at the start of her career, before being sent to the Queen Mary.

Katey Kontent was more than three lengths back of second-placed finisher Maylandsea in the fixture.

So she does have that to turn around. But regardless of position, Katey Kontent wasn’t out of place or disgraced in the Queen Mary.

From a quote of 4/1 she should be a player* (odds recorded at 18:04 GMT on August 11th, 2022 at BetVictor).

Can she reverse that form against Maylandsea? That is one of the interesting elements of Friday’s run.

Funny Story no laughing matter

Another with some big claims in this wide-open field is FUNNY STORY who scored impressively on her debut.

That was last month at Newmarket on a 6f trip. It was a maiden contest.

So Funny Story gets a slide backwards on distance, which doesn’t look as if it is going to really trouble her.

In landing her debut win, she beat Ivory Madonna who has since gone on to get narrowly defeated in a Group 3 contest.

Funny Story brings claims at 4/1* (odds recorded at 18:04 GMT on August 11th, 2022 at BetVictor).

Minnetonka looks smart

There was a winning debut made by MINNETONKA on a 6f trip at Salisbury.

She has been highly tried by leading connections since then.

Since that debut score, Minnetonka had been in a Listed and a Group contest.

The latter of those was the Group 3 Princess Margaret Stakes on a 6f trip last month.

The move to 5f furlong doesn’t look like a bad option at all and she is another who can’t be dismissed from this at 7/1* (odds recorded at 18:04 GMT on August 11th, 2022 at BetVictor).

Union Court could hold each way claims

Another that is worth considering for the shorts in St Hugh’s Stakes is UNION COURT.

She had an impressive start to her career, winning her first two outings.

Union Court has been well tested since then in higher quality assignments, so connections obviously think highly of her.

She did only land a fifth-place finish in the Super Sprint at course and distance last month.

That was a little disappointing, but Union Court was back in form on her follow-up.

Union Court was a runner-up at Goodwood 16 days ago, and that was only against a very promising-looking rival.

There is a current 11/1 quote on Union Court* (odds recorded at 18:04 GMT on August 11th, 2022 at BetVictor).

Rest of the runners

CARMELA has won a couple of 5f trips during this juvenile campaign. She ran with credit in the Queen Mary as well. She drops in class after struggling in Group 2 last time out.

CUBAN MISTRESS has had a decent salon, winning a trip at Sandown in May as a novice. She has been the runner-up in three of four runs since. She wasn’t so hot in Group 3 action at Ascot on her latest.

MIAMI GIRL isn’t without a shout. She’s won two of five runs and has looked impressive at times. A poor effort at C&D in the Super Sprint last time out knocks enthusiasm a little, however.

QUEEN OF UPLANDS is still a maiden but has shown some potential across her four runs. This may though, be just too much at the moment for her.

STAR OF LADY M has posted three wins in six. She doesn’t however, look short as her form from her efforts looks a big light.

TERRIMIA has won both appearances so far at Windsor and Yarmouth. There is plenty of promise in her, but this is a big jump up in class for her to handle.

WOOLHAMPTON did well in the Super Sprint at course and distance last time out, finishing as runner-up. She’s done well here at Newbury on a few runs but needs more to break that maiden.

Verdict for St Hugh’s Stakes Tips

This is a great-looking contest with plenty of claims all over the place for Friday’s showpiece fixture at Newbury.

The first selection in St Hugh’s Stakes Tips is KATEY KONTENT at 4/1* (odds recorded at 18:04 GMT on August 11th, 2022 at BetVictor).

Her Group 2 effort at Royal Ascot was very good, albeit well-beaten by Maylandseas, but she could reverse that form.

That’s because of a slight question mark over MAYLANDSEA because of that slightly unsteady run at Market on her latest run.

Still, the 3/1 FAV is not likely to be far away* (odds recorded at 18:04 GMT on August 11th, 2022 at BetVictor)..

The final selection in St Hugh’s Stakes racing tips is UNION COURT who is a decent 11/1 pick for value* (odds recorded at 18:04 GMT on August 11th, 2022 at BetVictor).

She was highly impressive at the start of her career. After a C&D struggle on her penultimate run, Union Court seemed to have it together at the distance on her follow-up at Goodwood.
