Fury v Wilder is back! Tyson Fury will step into the ring on the weekend for the third and final time against Deontay Wilder.

The third instalment of this ongoing battle ended up destroying a big unification fight between Fury and Anthony Joshua.

With a Fury v Joshua fight looking set to happen, Wilder’s claims of a third fight with Fury was upheld.

So instead, Joshua fought Olexsandr Usyk recently and lost all his belts in a shock upset.

So now it’s Fury’s chance to step into the limelight and to stay on top of the heavyweight division as well.

Fury v Wilder I

Fury and Wilder met in 2018 for the first time, a fight that Fury was the underdog for. It was a truly remarkable title fight that ended in a draw.

Both fighters dropped the other during the bout. Wilder had downed Fury hard in the 12th round and the British fighter looked out.

But somehow he managed to beat the count and many thought that even though he was knocked down twice, Fury had done enough to win the fight.

Fury v Wilder II

The rematch between Fury and Wilder in Las Vegas in February last year was much more cut and dry.

Fury dominated Wilder right from the outset and the American’s corner threw in the towel in the seventh.

Wilder had already been put down to the canvas twice. It was an astonishing one-sided contest, Fury earning the Technical Knockout success to earn the WBC heavyweight title.

Fury v Wilder III

October 9th, 2021 will see the trilogy of fights between these two completed. Fury still holds the WBC heavyweight title which will be back on the line.

Fury remains undefeated in his career and in the match outright is the 1/3 odds-on favourite in boxing betting* (odds recorded at 17:57 GMT on 10/05/21 at Bet365).

That’s understandable given his performance against Wilder in the first rematch. The American barely laid a glove on the British fighter.

ut Fury sounds cautious, aware of the obvious ability that the “Bronze Bomber” still retains.

Deontay Wilder is arguably the biggest around in the game still. One punch is generally all it takes from Wilder to end a contest. His only career defeat was against Fury, with 41 of his 42 career wins happening by a knockout.

Fury to stop Wilder once again?

Wilder has been criticised throughout his career for squaring off against lesser opposition, for not taking on the big guns. They don’t come bigger than Tyson Fury in the heavyweight division at the moment.

Neither fighter is likely to take a much different approach from the second meeting. Wilder’s career has been built on his highlight-reel, big-power, fight-ending punches.

But he wasn’t able to get any of his famous right hands off in the second fight.

Fury’s much better on his feet, much more technically gifted and has a strong chin as he proved in the first fight. It’s the third instalment, but we could see the second time Fury stops Wilder.
