Race Favourite

There is a small field here for a big test of stamina. Heading up the market for Race 5 from Fontwell on Friday is FLYING VERSE at 10/11* (betting odds taken from Coral at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 9th August 2020).

He is a pretty strong favourite here and he has made a good impression in his couple of runs for a new yard on his reappearance.

It has been back to back second-place finishes from him now and looks to have been treated fairly by the assessor.

He should set the standards here and has a 5lb claimer on his back. On his last run, Flying Verse looked as if he was going to get the win until he made a slight error going over the last.

He should be back strong and sets the standard in the contest.

UK Racing Odds & Tips

NEVER LEARN scored on his last effort in March when he showed up at Taunton. He goes up 6lb from, but that’s wiped out by claiming 7lb for jockey Harry Kimber.

So Never Learn comes in at a good mark and if he’s anywhere near the level of that Taunton score he could impress.

Coming back to action after wind surgery is MONKEY PUZZLE which makes him an interesting proposition in a small field. He should have a lot to offer going over the fences as well. He hit a good patch last season but form fell away at the end of it.

Race Favourite

TRANSPENNINE STAR is a strong favourite for this Fontwell hurdle at 10/11* (betting odds taken from Coral at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 9th August 2020). He put in a win on his last run, which was at Stratford 9 days ago.

That win was by 56 lengths. He gets a 7lb penalty for that one, in what was a strange, messy race which Tranpennine Star dominated anyway.

Trainer Jonjo O’Neill will have seen that there was plenty to spare on that run as well, so the penalty can be defied.

BLACK ANTHEM has been hit with a huge 10lb rise for this trip. But that is indicative of his good form since reappearance.

He has scored in two of his last three runs and seems to have unleashed even more under trainer Tom Lacey. It’s a big hike but strong place claims remain for him.

HEAVEY looked to be in a good position on his last run, which was at Perth. But he was pulled down in the race and stays at the same rating.

That was his chase debut, so there is still plenty of progress to come from him and is another with some decent claims to hit the money places at Fontwell on Friday.

There is another small field to size up in this fixture and heading up the market for it is ASHUTOR at 11/10* (betting odds taken from Coral at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 9th August 2020).

He has been handed a 7lb penalty for a recent win which came at Stratford just 9 days ago for trainer Paul Nicholls. It was a score landed by a 13-length margin as well.

That is two wins in four runs this season and he looked quite the polished product on that previous run, cruising home.

He was running off of a generous mark in that contest though and this is going to be a lot tougher now the handicapper has caught up with him.

UK Racing Odds & Tips

BEAT THE JUDGE has had a good time of things on his two runs since reappearance. He is useful over the hurdles and scored on his second attempt over them last month. That was on a 2m trip at Newton Abbot in a novice effort.

There’s probably more to come from him and he can show up in this small field. He beat Master Work recently who he opposes in this contest and looks like the value pick.

MONSIEUR D’ARQUE is another who won on his last trip. That was at Market Rasen in July and he came up with a chunky 9lb for that one.

But he is a strong sort and can probably put together a bold enough run to handle that hike.

OTI MA BOATI is the race favourite for this one at 11/8* (betting odds taken from Coral at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 9th August 2020).

The William Haggas-trained filly scored for her new yard at York after nearly a year away from action.

So she has to bring some leading claims to this contest. It is worth looking back to last season when she won all three of her 6f trips for Richard Fahey.

She does take on a 6lb rise for that York success, but she looks to be delivering on that promise she showed as a 2 year old.

LADY LYNETTA should put down a bold run in this one as she was highly improved last time out. Returning after a couple of months away, she showed up at Haydock in early August to post a win.

She looked to be well suited to a lesser trip in that one and more is to come from her. So she has more than enough to get in the frame here.

JAAIZAH will have the cheek pieces fitted for the first time. That should be an interesting factor for this one.

She made her handicap debut just a couple of weeks ago at Beverley and looks to be a straight and serious runner.

Jaaizah took fourth place there and from bottom of the weights looks to be an interesting player.

MAN OF PROMISE is the overwhelming favourite in this field at a current quote of 11/8* (betting odds taken from Coral at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 9th August 2020).

He had a strong debut and then stepping out for the first time as a 3 year old went even better.

He strode to a comfortable victory at Yarmouth in June (maiden). Man Of Promise does look to be full of promise.

He is going off a slightly tough mark in this contest however but he is not one to be underestimated at all.

ENDOWED should have enough to be a player in this field. On his last trip, which was earlier in August, he took second place over course and distance.

It is only a small bump up in the weights that he has taken on and with a couple of nursery scores behind him as a juvenile, he looks to be in decent shape.

MANY A STAR is the other that we would have to consider for this fixture. He posted a win at Doncaster on his reappearance and was hampered a little on his following run at Pontefract.

So there has been some significant improvement from him this season and Many A Star is one for the shortlist.

SEA TROUT REACH is a narrow favourite for this contest currently at 11/4, but has Silver Samurai right behind* (betting odds taken from Coral at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 9th August 2020).

Sea Trout Reach scored a win on his first run as a 3 year old when he delivered a score at Windsor to get himself off the mark at what was the third attempt.

There should be plenty of further progress to come and he notably has cheekpieces on for the first time.

SILVER SAMURAI should be a big contender in this field as he only found Finest Sound (the Britannia Stakes runner up) too good when he made his return to action this season.

He pushed on further though by scoring under handicapping terms at Redcar on his very next trip. Silver Samurai looks like a very confident runner.

INHALATION may pique some interest as well as he continues to progress well. He scored on his reappearance and then has kept pushing on from there with a couple of near misses.

He was just taken out at the line on his last run at Newbury and has enough to get in the frame.
