A small field for the first race of our Friday preview and it is LOGICIAN who is the strong 1/4 odds-on favourite* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 9th August 2020).
Why such a long-priced favourite? That is because he looks unstoppable.
The son of Frankel reappeared with a win at Doncaster recently. That was on the back of his five wins in five trips in 2019.
The last of those races last year was the St Leger and he is the standard-setter here. We don’t Logician him being taken out.
UK Racing Odds & Tips
HIGHLAND CHIEF looks to be the one that will push Logician the hardest in this small field. He found just one too good for him when he took a trip here in August.
That one was Plyederiver who he never got close to. That was in the Great Voltigeur and he had opened the season with a win at Royal Ascot.
On his last trip in September in a Group 1 contest, the Grand Prix De Paris, Highland Chief was a credible fifth.

The race favourite here is CHANCE at 6/1* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 9th August 2020).
He is a reasonable player here and he had a good reappearance run recently. In that he scored a second place finish at Sandown a month ago.
Chance is low mileage and he landed a hattrick last season, including a win at this venue. He is the favourite here but he is going to have his work cut out in a very competitive renewal.
UK Racing Odds & Tips
Our pick for this big field is CROWNTHORPE who won this race last year. He returns as a 7/1 option for this renewal and he looks to be in excellent shape* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 9th August 2020).
He is a good performer in soft condition and he collected a third place finish at Haydock a couple of weeks ago. Most interesting of all is that he is just 1lb higher than when he won this twelve months ago.
We would expect OUZO to also pull himself into the picture. He is well placed in the handicapping which will give him a chance.
This is the best trip for him and with him being 2lb lighter, he is in contention. Ouzo won three times last year and in his penultimate race he claimed a very good fifth place finish over course and distance.

FAVORITE MOON is the 4/1 favourite for this Heritage Handicap test at York* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 9th August 2020).
He has won two of his last three runs and he looks to be really heading in the right direction for Willie Haggas.
It was a score that he took on his last run, delivering in a 14f trip at Haydock. His penultimate race was here at York when he never got himself together in the Melrose at all.
But his form on either side of that disappointing run keeps plenty of interest on his side.

PRINCE ALEX is sitting on a five-timer and he needs to be respected for this contest. It has been superb progress and he is not done yet with progress.
He scored a couple of weeks ago in a much smaller field at Haydock at 14f. Prince Alex is getting better and better all the time in staying handicaps. He is one of the shortlisted candidates.
The other nomination to keep on the shortlist is ZEEBAND who is our pick at 6/1* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 9th August 2020).
He is on the hunt for a hat trick and he has made some strides. Two races ago he won on his handicap debut and then followed up at Thirsk five weeks ago.
Those were both 14f trips. He should be a player.

JOE FARRELL is the 4/1 favourite for this veterans’ handicap chase which brings something a little different to the table* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 9th August 2020).
He is making his return after 209 days away.
Joe Farrell was last seen in March when he took a third place finish at the Midlands National at Uttoxeter. He was in this race twelve months ago and he rattled the crossbar on that occasion.
It was three decent runs from him last season and could be aplayer.

ON TOUR looks to be a contender in his one as well. He was another in this one race last year and he got close in that one.
He is just up the 1lb from his effort in this race last year, when he was beaten only by a neck. He hasn’t won for some time, but there are some decent claims there in familiar settings.
But our pick is going to be DON POLI as a big 22/1 e/w option* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 9th August 2020).
He is a two-time Cheltenham Festival winner and he gets his first start for Dan Skelton. This is Don Poli’s first run since March when he was well beaten at Cheltenham over a big 3m 2f effort.

There is a competitive field in action for this contest and is LAST SURPRISE who is heading up the market at 9/4* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:37 GMT on Sunday, 9th August 2020). She is in great form, having scored on her last two trips.
She is a course and distance winner too. She is coming on leaps and bounds and her latest score was at Pontefract three weeks ago.
That was the best effort of her career so far and she looks as if she has a big chance of landing that hattrick. Last Surprise is our pick.

ATALANTA’S BOY will have disappointed supporters in the Ayr Silver Cup. He got knocked around a bit and it was just an overall poor effort from him.
He has scored twice in five runs this season. He may enjoy the switch back to the Polytrack as he won on his one previous attempt on the surface. He’s one to keep an eye on.
TINTO may have something to offer in terms of palace claims in this contest. He is a former course and distance winner.
He was second from last in the World Trophy at Newbury three weeks ago. Tinto gets the blinkers for the first time and has a 5lb claimer as well.
