We currently have joint 10/3 favourites for the race in Perfect City and Dog Of War, so let’s look at their claims* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 21:49 GMT on Sunday, 23rd August 2020).

PERFECT CITY scored a handicap hurdle win on his debut and nearly got a second one at his third attempt a couple of weeks ago.

He was just touched off here at Southwell a couple of weeks ago. He is taking on more of a trip in this one however, so his stamina will be under scrutiny.

DOG OF WAR makes his return for the first time since wind surgery. His last effort was in a novice hurdle at Taunton around 7 months ago.

Handicapping terms should help him along, and the trip looks as if it should bring something like the best out of him.

SALTO CHISCO is an interesting one because he put in some really good work last season over the fences.

It’s been 10 months since his last run, but if he is able to pick up on that form under handicapping, then he may well have some nice place claims.

The other that we will focus on is TIGHT CALL who was running well in his last effort six months ago.

Back in February, he was shaping well at Ludlow in a handicap fixture before he took a tumble a couple from home. That was only one of three runs last season for him.

There has been steady form from him and from 28/1 last time out he took fourth in a field of seven in a Doncaster handicap.

Bringitonboris does get the cheekpieces as well for the first time and while he is still a maiden, he looks to have some decent enough claims in this one to break that.

The unexposed KEY SPIRIT is an interesting runner and it is likely under handicapping that he is going to start pushing on.

He is sat on a decent mark for this contest as well and after a good fourth place in a field of eleven last time out, where he wasn’t pushed hard, place claims are not unreasonable.

MOTHASSEN is another name for us in this fixture. He won over distance at Leicester back in June and with him claiming 7lb for his jockey helps.

On his last run a month ago, Mothassen went well to score third in a field of 12 in a Redcar handicap .He should be a big player in this contest and gets the nod.

This is a big test of stamina and the favourite for the race is YES NO MAYBE SO at 7/4* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 21:49 GMT on Sunday, 23rd August 2020). He is currently eyeing up a hat trick of wins after returning to action in massive form.

Those two wins were at Uttoxeter and the latter of those came after he had stepped up to 23f. So should be the one who sets the standard in this fixture.

Yes No Maybe So has taken on another 9lb rise now for his increasing form, but he looked to have even more to spare on his recent win.

TEL’ART scored an easy win at 2m 6f on his last run at Stratford 18 days ago. He has been coming along in great shape this season as well.

Tel’Art should have this trip in him, but he takes on a hefty 7lb rise to deal with. But he is a bold runner and looks to be one who can throw down a serious challenge to the favourite.

POETIC RHYTHM is a lightly raced runner and while his form hasn’t been great, he looks to be on a really good, workable mark for this run.

He should have enough of a trip in him to potentially put in a good run here and return after nearly 200 days off of the track following a third at Uttoxeter in February.

This is an interesting 1m handicap and HLAITAN is the current 3/1 favourite for this* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 21:49 GMT on Sunday, 23rd August 2020). He is still a maiden but has some claims after a very good effort last time out.

He was a third in a field of a fifteen in a Newbury handicap in July. So he should pretty much match fit for this. Hlaitan does get the cheekpieces on for the first time now and looks to be trending towards something bigger.

MR TYRRELL trained by Richard Hannon, looks to be in prime shape as well. He was only beaten by a head in a course and distance offer last time out.

He only takes on a 1lb rise for that run but that has been wiped out by a 3lb claim for his jockey.

Mr Tyrrell is a former course and distance winner and following a near miss last time out at C&D, he should be in the frame.

PITCHCOMBE found a nice bit of form last time out when he scored 3rd place from a field of 9 in a Sandown Handicap recently.

That was three weeks ago and over a 1m trip as well. He stays at the same mark as he was for that one. Pitchcombe won as a juvenile last year and is one for the shortlist here.

EAGLE COURT is the 10/3 favourite for this Ayr Handicap* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 21:49 GMT on Sunday, 23rd August 2020). This will only be his third racetrack appearance, just one of those was as a juvenile.

He made a positive start as a 3-year-old, posting a 1m win at Pontefract a month ago. He got things together very well over the latter stages of that to get the win.

Eagle Court has good breeding behind him and stepping into the handicaps for the first time, he looks sharp.

STAR SHIELD comes down 2lb and he brings good form to the table following a fourth-place at Ascot last month.

He hasn’t won any of his last 11 races now but he is a very consistent runner and likely to be there or thereabouts in a race like this.

GLOBAL SPIRIT is worth a look as well to put on the shortlist. The form is there since he came back into action, winning one of his four trips.

He continued his good form with a third place at York in a 1m handicap a month ago. He has scored before at Ayr as well.
