It’s another busy weekend of racing action from Gulfstream. This is a big card as well because there are some Stakes races among the day’s action.
Here is our look at the top racing action from the Florida track for 16th May 2020. Included are racing odds and our tips of the day.
The conditions are expected to be a sloppy underfoot after some inclement weather in the Sunshine State.

This is Race 2 from Gulfstream on Saturday. It is an extended 1m Claiming contest. It is open to 3 year olds and above and there is a big field with 14 declared.
Race Favourite
DESCENTE goes as the 3/1 favourite* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 16:50 GMT on Friday, 16th May 2020). There are some form runners in this field and the bay filly is one of them.
She is looking to score a three-timer here after back to back scores at the venue. The most recent of those was in early February in similar sloppy conditions. Has a big chance.
Tips
We are going to look at three picks here. YAKO is a big contender after scoring at 8F on her last trip. That was at Gulfstream towards the end of April. She took out Spicy Nelly, Oblio’s Wish, Bahama Kitten and Vineyardnina in that one. That was on the firm ground however and the going doesn’t look as if it’s going to be near that.
A horse arriving in great form is CHICLET’S DREAM. Like the favourite, she is on a three-timer in this one. Her last two wins have both been at 8F trips at Gulfstream and she is a very good turf runner. So there’s every chance that she is going to be in the picture as well in this one.
The last one we will look at is LA INCONDICIONAL who has come on leaps and bounds since switching yards in late 2019. She has won two of her last three. The one that she didn’t score in that one was as the 4/5F to Oblio’s Wish in early March. There’s a chance that the conditions may not quite suit, but she could be in the frame.

This is Race 6 from Gulfstream on Saturday and this one is on the dirt. This is the first of the Stakes action from the course and there are six declared. It is an extended 6F trip for 3 year olds only.
Race Favourite
GREEN LIGHT GO is the 11/8 favourite* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 16:50 GMT on Friday, 16th May 2020). He has been successful at 5F and 6F and on his last trip at Gulfstream in early February, took third of eight to Mischievous Alex having been the 13/8F.
He won his first two appearances at a racetrack and has been in the top three in all four appearances. That includes a second place at Belmont in a Grade 1 contest.
Tips
CAJUN CASANOVA is a good 11/4 quote* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 16:50 GMT on Friday, 16th May 2020) for those looking to take on the favourite. He scored at this grade over a shorter 5F trip recently.
There’s a lot to get excited about in the 3 year old. He has won half of his eight racetrack appearances so far. He was powerful on his last run, but can he step up to the distance?
Another coming into this Stakes with form is 3 year old WITH VERVE. He is on a hattrick after back to back successes at the track. That is four wins from seven runs from him so far in his career.
He has been at longer distances than this, so the trip won’t bother hit and his recent scores were at 7F and 6F respectively and can’t be counted out here from 6/1* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 16:50 GMT on Friday, 16th May 2020).

This is Race 9 from Gulfstream and it is the Powder Break Fillies Stakes. This is open to 3 year olds and above. It is a 1m trip with 11 declared to run.
Race Favourite
The clear favourite is GOT STORMY in as short as 11/10* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 16:50 GMT on Friday, 16th May 2020). There’s little surprise there as she was the Breeders’ Cup Mile runner-up in November last year.
She wasn’t far from the win. She nearly scored what would have been her third Grade 1 win in early March. Got Stormy took second in the contest and will be returning here after a 70 day break.
Tips
It is hard to see the favourite getting beaten in this one so we have to consider places mostly. VALEDICTORIAN is one of the highest rated challengers and scored a smart third place on her last effort. She is a good horse and has every chance of getting among the money.
SILVER KITTEN has come good in two of her last three runs, after finishing as a runner up. The biggest of those was a Gulfstream Stakes appearance at the end of February when she took that second place from 9/1.
The unexposed VALIANCE won her one racetrack appearance which was in April last year. She has been away since then and makes for an intriguing entry.
But bringing stronger claims is 5 year old TAPIT TODAY. She is no mug and has won three of her last four trips. She was last seen in February’s Suwannee River Stakes (Grade 3) and was third.

This is Race 10 from Gulfstream and it is the Musical Romance Fillies Stakes. It is a 7f trip on the dirt and nine are declared for it. It is open to 3 year olds plus.
Race Favourite
LADY’S ISLAND comes in at 7/4 for this contest* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 16:50 GMT on Friday, 16th May 2020). The 6 year old mare scored on her last effort which was at Tampa Bay Downs.
She had been the 1/4F for that trip. She’s in blistering form having won seven of her last eight trips. Lady’s Island will, once again, be a tough cookie to beat.
Tips
Four year old WILDWOOD’S BEAUTY returns from a 63 day break. It has been near misses of three straight second-place finishes from her, the last two happening this year in January and March respectively.
She has taken five wins from 5f to 1m. She is a super consistent horse and even though she doesn’t look to have the beating of Lady’s Island at the moment, she looks for a lock for a place.
BELLERA should be another sharp contender in this one. She is on a three-timer after winning as 1/2F at Aqueduct on a 1m 1f trip in her last effort.
She is coming on leaps and bounds is the 4 year old bay filly and is a potential superstar in the making. Is she ready enough to take down the brilliant Lady’s Island however?
