USA Racing Tips & Betting Odds Santa Anita – 16th May 2020

Racing is back on in California and the action returns to the famous Santa Anita track. There are a couple of Stakes races on the day’s card which we will be taking a look at.

This is Race 5 from Santa Anita on Saturday. This is a 1m Claiming race in which there are 9 declared to run. This is open for 3 year olds plus.

Race Favourite

WORTHY TURK is the 13/8 favourite for the fixture* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 20:59 GMT on Friday, 15th May 2020). His last appearance was towards the end of March in taking a third place finish (of five) at Golden Gate Fields. He is looking to score for the first time since July 2018.

Tips

GO FOR A RIDE has to come into the frame one way or another in this contest. The last race that he took on was a Grade 3 affair at the San Luis Rey Stakes, so this is a big drop down in class.

This will be his first run for a new yard and he won an 8F Santa Anita trip in October last year in breaking his maiden.

A longer shot is SPEAKEROFTHEHOUSE who comes in after a 70 day break. He stepped away after securing his first win in a fixture at Santa Anita in early March this year.

Speakerofthehouse had been the 15/8F for that contest. There’s promise there after finally making the breakthrough after 16 starts.

Race Details

Onto some bigger Stakes action then. The Echo Eddie Stakes is the first of two Stakes races at Santa Anita on Saturday. This is a 6f trip on the dirt and it is open to 3 year olds only.

Race Favourite

BIG SWEEP is the 9/4 favourite for this one* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 20:59 GMT on Friday, 15th May 2020). The Filly broke her maiden at the first attempt which was at the venue in the middle of March.

She had been the 6/5 F for that one. So this is a considerable jump up for a $94,500 Stakes fixture. Certainly one to watch in the field.

Tips

There should be nothing wrong with the chances of BETTOR TRIP NICK in this one who has put together some very good form. He has won three of his five racetrack appearances.

The most recent was a third at Santa Anita in January this year when he put in a good effort in a stakes race. He has a chance.

There have been signs of progression from ROOKIE MISTAKE who won a Claimer in early March. That was the second win in four trips on the turf.

So it will be interesting to see if he can put the same kind of form together on the dirt for this one. There’s decent enough place claims there at the very least.

This Race 8 and the second Stakes of the day from Santa Anita. There are 10 declared to run in the race. This is on the dirt and is open to 3 year olds only. It’s a 6f contest.

Race Favourite

BULLETPROOF ONE heads the market at 5/2* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 20:59 GMT on Friday, 15th May 2020). The filly has won her last two contests, which were both at Golden Gate Fields. Those were similar contests to this, both half a furlong shorter than this one. So she certainly commands some respect for this Santa Anita test.

Tips

The very exciting WARREN’S SHOWTIME could make a splash in this one. She too has won her last two contests, the first of those was over Bulletproof one in mid-January having gone off as the joint favourite. It’s a big test on the dirt after a seventy day break, but she is rapidly improving and can get in the mix.

BEEN STUDYING HER has every chance if she is amped up for this one. She did have a poor outing, finishing second from last on her last run at Santa Anita at 1m. That was a race won by Bulletproof One. However, she did beat the latter in their previous meeting when she was on her game. Has switched stables since that last misfire and can respond.
