Race Details

This is Race 5 from Santa Anita on Saturday and is the Daytona Stakes. It is a Grade 3 contest which is five and a half furlongs. It’s open to 4 year olds plus.

Race Favourite

CISTRON is the race favourite at 15/8* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 20:12 GMT on Friday, 22nd May 2020). The 6 year old is on a hattrick and will be coming back after a 63 day break to try and get that.

He is a horse that is in top form with three wins and a second place finish in his last four trips. His last win was at the venue in the San Simeon Stakes (Group 3) with Sparky Ville and Murad Khan behind him.

Tips

STUBBINS warrants some respect in this one. That’s after taking fourth at the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint just back in November. That came straight after a win at Keeneland. He is a very good sprinter and on his day can mix it up in this company.

There was an impressive win by 4 year old WILDMAN JACK on his last trip which was at Meydan. He absolutely stormed the first in the Nad Al Sheba Turf Sprint (Group 3) by almost five lengths. That was the second win in three runs for him. This is a small, yet highly competitive field and he wouldn’t be winning out of turn.

Race Details

This is a 6f Claiming race on Saturday at Santa Anita. This is Race 6 of the day’s card and it is open to 3 year olds plus. It’s on the fast dirt and there are seven declared for the contest.

Race Favourite

The outright favourite is REAL GOOD DEAL at 15/8* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 20:12 GMT on Friday, 22nd May 2020). The filly comes back from a 69 day break where she was 3rd of 10 at Santa Anita. She will be looking for her first win since breaking her maiden in September last year.

Tips

A contender in this one could be SYBIL’S KITTY. The 4 year old has been away from the track for 69 days. Her maiden was broken in October last year and she hasn’t scored in three runs since then. But they were all in richer races than this one is and could enjoy herself on the drop back.

MIDNIGHT GARDEN will be stepping out for just her second contest and the fact that she’s 4/1 here speaks volumes* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 20:12 GMT on Friday, 22nd May 2020). It was the nature of her win that puts her into the frame in this claimer because it was highly impressive.

Santa Anita 23:45 Race Odds & Tips

Lovely Lilia 7/4
Too Much Heaven 5/1
Biddy Duke 6/1
Sugar Pickel 7/1
Samurai Charm 7/1
Vegan 8/1
Galwalksintobar 8/1
Rstars And Stripes 16/1
Bluegrass Sky 15/1

Race Details

This is Race 7 from Santa Anita and it is a Starter Optional Claiming race. It’s over five and a half furlongs on the fast dirt at the track. This is open to 3 year olds only and the race has 9 declared to run.

Race Favourite

LOVELY LILIA goes as the 3/1 favourite* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 20:12 GMT on Friday, 22nd May 2020). She has won two of her four runs and missed out on a hattrick on her last effort. That was at Santa Anita but at a much higher grade than this one. That’s the thing with her, she is used to higher class company.

Tips

The other contender worth a look is GALWAKSINTOABAR who made an impressive debut. She scored a good success on her debut. That was over 6f.

This is a big step up in class obviously but does offer some value at 8/1* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 20:12 GMT on Friday, 22nd May 2020).

We are throwing another into the mix and that is TOO MUCH HEAVEN who is a 5/1 shot here* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 20:12 GMT on Friday, 22nd May 2020). The 3 year filly returns from a 69 day break.

After back to back wins, her form has just slipped backwards with a second and a third. But she can arrest that on this drop down in class.

Race Details

This is the Charles Whittingham Stakes which is Race 8 from Santa Anita on Saturday. This is on the fast dirt and it is a 1m 2f contest (Grade 2). It’s open to 3 year olds and above and there are 7 declared to run. The winner takes $126,000.

Race Favourite

UNITED is the 11/10 favourite for the big Stakes race of the day from Santa Anita. The 5 year old is probably going to take some stopping as well.

He has been away for 112 days after his success at the venue at the start of February in a similar Stakes race.

It’s been two wins from five starts and he was second on his last Grade 2 effort which was at the Hollywood Turf Cup Stakes in early December. Has all the tools to go and enjoy himself in this one and could take some stopping.

Tips

ORIGINAIRE brings some good claims to the table in this one. The 4 year old scored a win under Allowance terms in early March. He had been the 6/5F in that one and he returned from an 84 day break.

He has been at this level and higher before in races. Missing that winning touch at the higher grade, but is a contender.

Another worth a look is MULTIPLIER who has taken a couple of solid results in his last couple of efforts. There was a 2nd place in a Grade 1 handicap at Santa Anita in mid March.

Then he returned from a 70 day break to land 3rd of 6 at the track under Allowance claims. Not his best distance perhaps, but a nice e/w contender.Bet365
