Tight duel expected
Shan Blue heads to Warwick on the back of a victory at Southwell in December. That race saw him go as the 2/7 favorite and he romped to a 20 length victory which was nothing more than a work out for him. That was his maiden hurdle. That breeze at Southwell followed a fall in late November at Newbury and he is 11/4 for Saturday’s run* (betting odds taken from Betway on January 10th, 2020 at 5:54 pm). He is going to get a challenge on the weekend, most likely. That is because of the presence of Harry Senior.
Harry Senior should be in the mix with his form improving. It has been 221 in his last three runs. He hit the peak to get a victory in December at Chepstow from the position of 4/5 favourite over 2m 3f. He took out Global Fame by five lengths in that run as well. Decor Irlandais can improve
Like a fair chunk of the runners set for this race, there is some improving to come from Decor Irlandais. He delivered a Class 4 win at Catterick in mid-December and has placed or won in four of his last five outings. That run at Catterick of 2m 3f should shape him up well to perhaps challenge the front runners on Saturday.
Other Runners
Whatsupwithyou has won his last two races, the latest of which was at Ascot in December, in what was his maiden hurdle. That was a good victory for him at 33/1 but there’s little to gauge how he will get in among the action on Saturday based on that one run. Mossy Fen was fourth at Cheltenham in his last run but could have gone better had he not been hampered in the closing stages. Keen On has won a couple of hurdles at 2m and 2m 4f at Southwell and Sandown. He’s not in bad form at all but Nicky Henderson’s entry may be chasing for a place and nothing more.
Predictions
Harry Senior has to be the pick for his one. He has been improving with each step and was untouchable at Chepstow back in December. With Decor Irlandais having claims but unpredictable with current form, the other pick would be Mossy Fen who has carried big form this season and a respectable fourth at Cheltenham last time out was no poor effort.
