Lewis Hamilton produced a dominant display at Monza over the weekend to take the lead in the F1 Drivers Championship. The win at the Italian Grand Prix was his sixth victory of the season, giving him a three points lead over Sebastian Vettel now. After a strong win in Belgium prior to the Monza challenge, Hamilton is now the one with momentum going in the season, but it is still a tight scrap at the top with Ferrari’s Vettel still landing places on the podium. He came home third at Monza, with Hamilton’s teammate Valtteri Bottas sandwiching the two title rivals.
Vettel has won four races to Hamilton’s six so far this season and Hamilton, with his pole position in Italy, broke the record from most ever F1 Pole Positions. There will be more added to the list throughout the rest of the season of course. His wins in Belgium and Italy also means that Hamilton has been the first driver to win back to back races this season in what is proving to be a fantastic competitive battle.
The win for Hamilton, of course, will have been all that much sweeter with it being at the home of Ferrari. Being Vettel therefore in his own backyard to take the championship lead will have been a big moment for the British driver. Vettel had led the Championship since the very first race of the season, but now the Mercedes is in charge.

The F1 season moves on to the Singapore Grand Prix next, which is a street circuit and Vettel is trading at 5/4 to win that one because the Ferraris have been better than the Mercedes have been on the slower, tighter races. That’s been highlighted by Vettel’s wins in Australia, Monaco and Hungary. Therefore Hamilton is a 7/4 shot to win in Singapore.
