Masar backed in 2000 Guineas after Craven success

Craven Stakes success boosts 2000 Guineas challenge

Masar made a pretty big statement at the Craven Festival at Newmarket this week which has been shaken up betting odds at bet365 for the 2000 Guineas. Masar started as the second favourite with the bookmaker behind Roaring Lion in the Craven Stakes, a 7-furlong race. In the midst of the unseasonable heat, Masar turned on an impressive show of speed to blaze home, crushing White Mocha by seven lengths.

At the close of Wednesday, April 18th, Masar was nothing more than a 25/1 outsider at bet365 in 2000 Guineas betting, but following success at Newmarket, odds were hacked right down to a 7/1 odds chance* (betting odds taken at 6:00 p.m. on April 19th, 2018). That’s a dramatic cut and now the outright favourite, Gustav Klimt appears to have another challenger stepping to the fore for the running of the feature race on May 5th.

Gustav Klimt produced a fine success in the Leopardstown Trail last weekend to justify his place at the head of the market, once again looking strong on what was his first trip this season, following on from his success at the bet365 Superlative at Newmarket last Spring. He holds ground as the 3/1 favourite in bet365 2000 Guineas betting odds* (betting odds taken at 6:00 p.m. on April 19th, 2018).

Roaring Lion, handsomely beaten out at Newmarket by Masar in midweek, has gone on the drift out to 12/1 following his failure to deliver as the odds-on favourite in the Craven Stakes. Saxon Aidan O’Brien’s Saxon Warrior shorted a little on Thursday to 9/2* (betting odds taken at 6:00 p.m. on April 19th, 2018) with Elarqam at 6/1* (betting odds taken at 6:00 p.m. on April 19th, 2018).

2000 Guineas betting odds*

Gustav Klimt 3/1, Sazon Warrior 9/2, Elarqam 6/1, Masar 7/1, Expert Eye 8/1, Roaring Lion 12/1, US Navy Flag 16/1, Wootton 20/1, bar 25/1* (betting odds taken at 6:00 p.m. on April 19th, 2018)
